Power outage in the NE

We had high wind and hard rain, but it didn’t last that long. We were without power from 7 pm until 9:30 pm.

Visiting South Portland, wind but nothing else

NYC suburb here. Power out since 1:30pm and no restoration in sight. Trees down everywhere.

We’re in MD, west of I-95. We were on the western edge of the storm. Intermittent rain at 3 am when I went to bed last night, wind and steady hard rain ended at 10 am. It’s been sunny and clear since. We didn’t lose power, though VA and MD east of 95 did. I always worry about the trees in our older neighborhood, but noone lost any this time. We were lucky this time.

We were lucky that our power was only out for about 4 hours. My office was out until early this morning. Getting here was a challenge with power out to some traffic signals and with roads closes, making for a very slow drive once I was off the highway.

Interesting that there was no rain! That’s only 20 miles or so from us.

in MA. Strong winds and periods of heavy rain. The lights flickered ominously a few times around 9pm but luckily, we didn’t lose power. Other neighbors in our town were not so lucky.

DH is at our NJ house and is still on generator with no internet. He said there was about 8" of rain yesterday with downed trees. Power company says 94% of our township is without power and there are no estimates for repair. All they say is “days”. History tells me it is going to be a while because we tend to be at the tail end of the repair timeline.

I’m in MA–power outages in my town. Good news is I’ve got a generator. Bad news is that the rain blocked up a condensate line in the AC and I’ve got a leak that damaged my wood floors in a hallway and laundry room. Ugh. . . and I’m having difficulty getting in contact with the AC guys and also wondering if it’s also a roof problem. Friend of ours is a contractor and is coming over to us figure out causes.

in SE PA, no power here since 1pm yesterday. cell service at home even stinks because noone has wifi I think and overloading the data towers.

kids have zoom calls this afternoon, so ‘sheltering’ in the boardroom at the CC where there is a/c and wifi.

storm in June was still worse here, but still lots of people without power.

My tiny CT town hit hard. At least 16 roads closed and no power for 90% of the town for last 24 hours. About 10% have been restored but no info from electric company when we’ll be back on. Massive limb on our ancient oak fell, filling our front yard. Missed hitting our neighbor by about 60 seconds. She had come to drop off our misdelivered mail. Lots of smaller trees down. Drove through town and almost every yard has a tree or big branches down. We have a generator that can handle fridge and freezer and charging phones. No water but we are lucky that we have a pool because it was pretty warm today and no AC or fans. Also have a gas cooktop so that’s good too.

Central NJ - we have power but over 40% of our town doesn’t and the JCP&L estimate is August 11 !

NYC suburb in Westchester - no power since 1:20pm Tuesday and best they can say is hopefully by Sunday night most will be repaired. Which would be fine except my 88 y/o mother is staying with us for my S’s wedding which is scheduled for my yard on Saturday after being postponed since March because of Covid. At least temperatures are going down for the next few days and the caterer has power.

My town has about 45% of residents out; we are lucky b/c our power came back on at about 2 a.m. this morning. I am still hearing our neighbors’ generator hum. I also hear chainsaws as people cut up branches for removal. I can’t wait until blessed silence.

This is the second time in a couple of months that I’ve had to throw out a lot of expensive food because of a prolonged power outage. Thinking of getting a small generator. At this rate it will pay for itself soon.

@runnersmom good luck to you! I hope you get power back faster than they’re predicting.

@thumper1 sent a message that her power could be out for several more days!

D living on Long Island reports power is still out where she is. Fortunately she has a whole house generator. Friends reporting lots of problems since most are working from home and need Wifi. The latest update is power may be restored on Saturday.

Near Hartford, CT - Eversource (power company) can’t even give us a timetable for power to come back on, but according to its President of Electrical Operations “I’m very confident that by the end of this weekend we will have a very large chunk of the customers restored”. I hope we’re included in that “chunk”.

Our brother-in-law loaned us a generator that we have two refrigerators and an a/c unit for the MB (we have central air) hooked up to. A large branch fell into the pool but other than damaging the reel to the solar cover, no other damage. A limb falling off a tree in the front of the house damaged some siding. We were hoping a tree would fall on our shed in the back yard, but no such luck…

On Monday my car was hit by an 83 year old man who I think ran a stop sign, but who claimed he didn’t see me (it was my turn at a 4-way stop) and totaled my car (side air bag deployed in my 6 year old minivan that only had 60,000 miles on it). So on top of everything (Covid, lack of electricity) we’re now car shopping…

Northern NJ - power restored tonight but still no internet.

According to our mayor, JCP&L reported that the damage ranks somewhere between Hurricanes Sandy and Irene. I remember that Irene knocked us out for 5 days and that’s when we bit the bullet and installed the whole house generator. It has turned out to be the best investment we’ve made in that house. So many power outages in our area.

Yes, a generator would be worth the money. We have a small one. It keeps fridge, freezer, Internet, computers , phone chargers , one lighted room., tv going. We were without power for 2 weeks with Sandy and that along with fact that we had gas hot water heater, fire place , and stove kept things going decently.

Well…it’s Friday. We got our cell service back today. Still no power or internet and they say it could be Tuesday before we get power. Almost everyone on our short street has a generator. We have the fridge, lights, and our well pump so we have water. Hoping this gets fixed before temps rise into the 90’s again
