Powerball!

Since my mom is in the hospital I bought hers and she treated for one for me and one for my sister. If any of our H’s tkts come in we will still all share.

“Can we superscore our tickets!!!” Great idea CF. Only on CC.

Odds of my single ticket hitting jackpot are 3 parts per billion.
[but it’s well worth the fun from fantasizing … lol!]

Odds of tonight’s drawing having no jackpot winner are about 4.6% = e^-3.082.

[Assuming that 33% of ticket sales revenue is responsible for the increased jackpot from $900M to $1.5B.]

The Texas lottery worksheet has a $1.5 billion jackpot on sales of $1.141B. So that’s a mere 570 million tickets sold so far, which puts the chance of no jackpot winner at almost 14%. Say another 200 million tickets are sold today. That would still give us a 7% chance of no winner.

^^ got it

@“Cardinal Fang” Addition of $0.6B to jackpot from sales of $1.14B puts about 53% of sales revenue going to jackpot. Is that right?

I had every intention to not join in this nonsense. Then, while at work, I used my last stamp. I drove a block to the P.O. The postal, people told me they had little business, but the tickets in front of store had a long line. We discussed our favorite charities. Mine is foster kids. The woman likes the nature reserve and an animal shelter. I agreed to share with her, as those are nice intentions.

So, there was only one woman buying her tickets. I thought it was fate. Then, she bought $553 worth, all in cash. I got my 2 little tickets. I sent a picture to my son, as of course I’d share with him (& all the other relatives who would become my best friends), and son responded that he bought one too. (Note to self, he didn’t mention sharing.)

A caltech prof figured the odds of winning. For example, you’d have more chance of being hit by lightning, while drowning.

My daughter asked me to buy her a ticket since Alabama doesn’t participate. I sent her a picture of it. It’s been funny and sweet hearing what she’d do with it. Paying a friend’s mom’s medical bills, giving me a dream house. …not sure she comprehends the enormity of a billion dollars. I do hope whoever wins doesn’t have their lives ruined by it.

I actually know someone who was struck by lightning while swimming in the ocean in Venice Beach last year. Hope that person bought a lottery ticket!

I bought two tickets on my way home because I drove right past a 7-11 and the parking lot was almost empty; no wait. Apparently I hit a lull because people started streaming in right as I was leaving. I will of course share with DH and DS (especially if DS will move near us). I may share with Brother if he’s not his usual insulting sarcastic self. And I guess that has to include SIL, who I know doesn’t like me. I will decide whether to share with my niece (who does write thank you notes) and my nephew (who does not write thank you notes).

If I win, surely my niece will give me back the gold/white gold/diamond rose pin my brother took (which was part of my inheritance) because I will insist. Brother lives out of the country now, but told me he gave it to his DD, so I need to take it up with her. I have asked her via private FB message, and no response…she lives in another state. Wrong is wrong.

I actually bought tickets to include my deceased parents. Figure they will share. Actually I wanted to honor them as part of our family. My mom was very lucky when on this world - she is lucky now in heaven.

dadofs, I don’t know how the jackpot is calculated. I’m just reporting what’s in the Texas lottery worksheet:
http://www.txlottery.org/export/sites/lottery/Documents/jackpotestimates/pb20160109.pdf

And then I used a binomial to calculate the chance of no winner, one winner, two winners, etc.

If I win, I will hold a weekend bash for all Cafe parents that I “know” or who are vouched for by someone I “know.” Will also have to track down some oldtimers, like Marite, Curmudgeon, and BulletandPima. Maybe at a spa hotel somewhere like Palm Springs, so that we don’t have to deal with the hose/no hose question, LOL. Airfare included, of course.

Taking suggestions for venues. CC parents know everything. :)]

Urban or rural, for your venue, Consolation?

Consolation, what a great idea. Seems like the destination should be a college hub, no?

I’m torn, @Cardinal Fang and @Youdon’tsay.

Several things: the bar will be open at all times (legal locally, anyway), and it will be free. No one should be prevented from attending by lack of funds. You can bring your SO or ditch him/her, as you please. I’m thinking of trying to find a place where we can all bring our dogs (unless, of course, you are leaving them at home with your SO). When I say “parents,” I mean participants in the Parent Cafe/Forum, including non-parents such as @cobrat and @romanigypsyeyes.

Sounds like fun! Sigh … I wish there were a benefactor in our midst who would do this without having to win the lottery first …

We could have panels! And a fashion show of mother-of-the-groom dresses and shoes!

I think I’ve decided how to spend it. Not going to get the big one, but one of the lesser pots, maybe a couple of million will do it. I’m going to replace most of my appliances. A new refrigerator that I don’t have to put a chair against to keep the door closed, a dishwasher that actually washes instead of just sanitizes, an oven where you can still read the settings, and a washing machine that isn’t duct taped together. Then, I’ll go to REI and replace my wardrobe that is coffee stained, ripped and permanently covered with dog hair, no matter how much I wash it. Invest a little, pay off debt, and give the rest away. So easy to spend.

Actually, now that I write all that, I realize that maybe I should get one of those AHS appliance home warranties. Just in case I don’t win, of course.
