I did t win. In fact, I didn’t match one number. I got one $2 quick pick ticket.
I was in nyc and bought the second lottery ticket of my life. First one when I turned 18. My mom was in the hospital and gave me $10 as well.
Hubby plays occasionally for fun.
Rule number one apparently is to not tell people until you’re prepared. I was wondering where you actually put that much money, can a brokerage company take that much? I don’t even think a bank would be safe.
My first stop would be to give my company to a few employees to run as they wish.
Do,you get anything for having two correct numbers? Not the powerball number…just two regular numbers.
From CNN:
"The odds may say that you’re not going to win. But here are a few things that you’re actually much more likely to do:
Have an IQ of 190 or greater (1 out of 107 million)
Give birth to quadruplets, even without the help of fertility treatments - (1 in 729,000)
Be killed by an asteroid strike (1 in 700,000)
Be an American billionaire (1 in 575,097)
Be killed by a lightning strike - (1 in 164,968)
Die by drowning (1 in 1,113)
Be struck by lightning, while drowning (1 in 183 million)"
The problem isnt buying one or two tickets. It’s people buying more than they can afford to lose.
But I’ve mentioned before that a former coworker used to see odds as a simple dichotomy: you either win or you don’t. Or win big or not. 50-50.
Gee, only 1 in 575,097 to be a billionaire in the US? Seems like a cakewalk in comparison! I’ll take that one! Now, if only the stock market would cooperate.
That’s so sad. I wish they taught everyone statistics in high school!
My mom made me go buy her a ticket yesterday (she’s in the hospital so couldn’t do it herself.) I bought 3 - one for her, me and my sister. H also bought two for our dogs. The dogs didn’t win and I haven’t checked the numbers on tkts I bought. When I was in line there were people buying 20 and 30 tickets - but it was in Boca so I’m pretty sure they can afford it.
Just checked my numbers - didn’t win. Very disappointed.
My 20-year-old son bought a ticket! I guess all my preaching didn’t faze him. His dream died.
The people buying more than one ticket need a lesson in probability.
I didn’t buy a ticket, but who’s planning to buy a ticket for the next round?
There are worse things people can do with their money. At least much of the revenue goes back to the community.
Yes obviously if you’re spending more than you can afford, it’s a problem. But if you’re not hard pressed for money then I can think of much worse things someone can do with a few dollars.
I’ll probably be buying $5 worth of tickets. Do I think I’ll win? No but it is still a bit of fun
Gambling addiction is one of the few addictions I’m fortunate to not have in my family. However, I get to hear the horror stories from my uncle who is a cards dealer at a major casino in Detroit. It’s very sad.
Didn’t win either, and only matched 2 numbers on 1 ticket, which I believe gets me nothing.
Wish my mom was around–she always was the lucky one at games of chance. She often won. Me, never.
I had a friend who had a dream that she was carrying a grocery bag filled with lottery tickets and they blew away out of the bag and she couldn’t retrieve them.
She quit buying lottery tickets after that–figured the grocery bag was meant to be filled with food not worthless tickets.
We’ll buy one this week. If we’re supposed to win, one is all you need. Plus, as I mentioned before-probability. Buying two makes no sense.
I would rather someone spend $5.00 on lottery tickets, than cigarettes or alcohol , but that’s my personal bias. I buy tickets occasionally, and I have won what I’ve spent, but my son has benefitted greatly through state funded scholarships funded by lottery sales.
I may buy tickets instead of Starbucks coffee tomorrow on my way to work.
I buy an occasional ticket or two for a Powerball. I consider the small amount of money lost as an entertainment fee.
^^ Me too, FallGirl. I also occasionally buy a state lotto ticket. (Never more than 1.) The money goes towards state parks and recreational areas, so it’s entertainment value plus a kind of investment in the state. Truth is, I’m so cheap, I’d be thrilled with winning 50 bucks. But so far, the most I’ve ever won was 3.
So you’re saying we have a chance! <:-P
I have all my documents ready for when it comes time to claim the $$. ![]()
