Most surprising for me is Randolph-Macon College: isn't that a women's college? And isn't it associated with a military boarding school? It's possible I'm thinking of the wrong college, of course.

There were 3 R-Ms in VA.

Randolph-Macon College in Ashland is a coed college.

Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal is a coed military prep school.

Randolph-Macon Women's College was a single-sex college. It was renamed Randolph College and is now coed starting this AY.

Am I the only one who hurried through this list twice to make sure Alma Mater wasn't on it?

I'd think it was a hoot to have my alma mater on it (it wasn't)!

No wonder I've been so confused, Motherdear! Thanks!

Every year it's the same - the usual rotating roster of large publics with one LAC thrown in for good measure.

I'll bet there are lots of volunteers for the panel that researches this for PR ;)

I hurried through the list to make sure my alma mater WAS on it! We've slipped to No. 8. GO HOOSIERS!

How can a school fall out of the top twenty completely after hovering near the top? Where's Wisconsin?

We Are.......penn State

My Alma Mater IS on the list:) No surprise there. It is in a very rural area of the state where the major thing to do is hit the bars and party. It's not a major metro area...and the nearest major metro area is about 1 1/2 hours away. Now having said that...I will say that I think most schools are party schools.

Hmmm...daughter has a best friend at UC-SB and two good friends at RMC.

Wazzu didn't even make the list--they are slipping in Pullman.
I didn't expect to see my alma mater, but I DID scan to make sure DD's school wasn't there!

from what I hear Swarthmore should be on this list at about 5 or 6....

I'm sorry to see that San Diego State has slipped off the list, because a colleague at work went undergrad to SDSU and to grad school at UCSB - she used to be a California party school double.

And here's the flip side:

I have to say that back when I was 18, being on that first list would be a definite plus factor in my decision of where to go to college. ;)

What's with the Univ of New Hampshire??? Is it the token New England school, or is it a real party haven??

Woo Hoo! Alumna of #19. Seriously, it's the Greek system fueling so much of the party atmosphere.

Interestingly, #4 on the sober list, College of the Ozarks which is near Springfield, calls itself "Hard Work U."
