Practical Advice For Those Who Got Into Choate...

I just wanted to ask, how in the world do you pronouce the name of the school?

Like Boat except with CH, like in CH00-CHOO train. The ‘e’ is silent.

Can someone please contradict this board?

I think that prep school is what you make it. If you try hard and immerse yourself with people you like and are different, you’ll have a better time than someone who is cynical and sits with the same kids they themselves are. So, boarding school should be what you make it, and don’t make it something you can complain about.

Yay for me and my mediocre public school, because it’s looking very rosy right about now.

Free, public, magnet high schools for mathematics and science ftw. :)

I came across this post from Googling “Choate sucks,” and was so taken by how accurate it was that I’m still not entirely convinced that I didn’t write it. And I was in the same class as SoundAdvice ('05). Maybe things have changed since then, but I doubt it.

Caveat emptor.

I do have one disagreement though: the school is not dominated by New Englanders, but by tacky-bourgeois, noveau-riche striver types, who can come from anywhere in the world but are concentrated in New York City and its suburbs. There are comparatively few New Englanders unless you consider Connecticut to be New England (which I do not).

Doesn’t this belong on the Prep School Admissions board?

Sorry, but Connecticut is in New England.

This is about a prep school (a high school), not admissions thereto. This post would be like ranting about your college in College Life.
