Pre-AP or AP Chemistry

If by chance, you were given the choice to test out of Pre-AP Chemistry, would it be the right decision to skip out of it, right into AP Chemistry?

What exactly is the difference between Pre-AP and AP Chem.?
Are the things you learn different or is it just the same thing with harder levels?

I think a little more info would help us answer your question.

What grade are you in? Have you taken any chem before? Do you feel ready to take a college level course?

“College-level”*

@kimisizer: I’d rather not state my grade  sorry~
But I do have the general basis of chemistry and feel rather confident! Also, I have reliable sources to study from which I believe will prepare me for both, whether it be pre-ap or ap.

I guess my main question was the ‘difference’ between the two :)

Why would you rather not state you’re grade? It helps us answer the question.

Also, pre-ap (honors chemistry) is almost a required prerequisite for AP Chem.

Honors Chem barely scratches the surface of chemistry, while AP takes a sledgehammer to it.

It depends!

Do you have a passion for chemistry? With a background of experience? If so, then AP Chemistry is right for you!

However, if this is the first time you are learning chemistry-related studies and you have minimal to no experience, it might be beneficial if you test the waters first… just to see if you like it and perhaps consider pursuing it in the future.

Well if you are a rising sophomore, I would say take Pre-AP and then AP. You don’t want to stress yourself out already. Then as a junior take AP when you have a better grasp of Chem. If you are going to be a junior and feel confident with chem take a look at some of the first chapters and if they seem like material you already know, then it should not be too hard. AP chem is one of those classes where motivation and concentration are needed. Anyway I hope you make the choice that is right for you based on everyone’s advice. Good luck!
