Pre-Med and Cognitive Science

I know that most medical schools do not approve of prospective medical students who’ve majored in biology or chemistry as an undergraduate, but how likely is it that cognitive science will not be frowned upon as a major when applying to med schools?

I don’t think they frown upon you as a science major, I think they also just appreciate other majors. I think you should major in whatever you want since you may or may not go to med school in all honesty (not you as a person, but statistically at UVA), and if you like your major and do well then why would med schools frown upon it?? Maybe I’m missing something…

Orchidork, in the olden days (1970s/early 1980s), med schools strongly preferred people who had majored in biology or chemisty. Then they found that actually, all sorts of people excel in medical school provided they have a basic science background and aptitude. So med schools still take lots of biology and chemistry majors, but they take others as well. Just make sure you fulfill your premed requirements along with your cognitive science major and you’ll be on track.
