Prelim vs predicted?

May I know which one is more important? My JC is rather competitive. My predicted grades are: GP-H2 PCM-H1 History=BABAB but the prelim results are really terrible. My target schools are normally colleges which are good in engineering such as UIUC, UCB, UMich, Penn State-Uni Park, UCSB, CWRU, Purdue, OSU… Will I be automatically out is they see my prelim and predicted grades? Also, my results were quite good in JC1 but gradually become more terrible not because I stop working hard but because the exams are becoming increasingly difficult. Can someone tell or share your experience about such situation? I feel quite lost now. Thanks a lot!!!

Hey I think you can just send them the predicted results since they are good and say nothing about your prelims. The rule is, if the results sucks, do not send them if possible. As far as I know, there are kids in Singapore who have gone to Purdue even right after Alevels. So Purdue should be okay for you provided you have decent olevels. Get good SAT scores an you will be fine.

Alevels should be less challenging. It is very likely u will be provided with admission before the Alevels are out. Don’t worry you will get admission into good universities with your good olevel scores and sat and JC1 as well as predicted scores. Look at my past posts. I got admission from a good university in Texas and I haven yet taken Alevels. You will be fine. Don’t be let down by that one prelim examination. I am in a competitive. I am perorming not so ideally in j2 as well. But I will get good grades in Alevels coz it will be easier to get As in Alevel than in school administered exams

And UIUC is really easy to get in seriously, provided u have adequate financial resources. I have got seniors who got B average in Alevels getting in.

Hi! Really thank you for your very detailed information. I was really down for the whole day after receiving my prelim results… I will get a good sat score! =) By the way, I’m also quite worried about one thing: if I send both of my olvl(which is quite good, all As except english) and a predi results, will that show a trend that my results are deteriorating? But the fact is that jc work is totally another world compared to sec school so I’m not sure how they will view my results. Yeah, I’m also very willing to go GIT!

Hey as far as I know, US unis treat Alevels as college level coursework. And it indeed is, I bet they are more difficult even than the APs! You could get credits for Alvels for up to one year at some schools so I think they just close one eye even if your hoc results are not as perfect as your Alvels. I also got near perfect Olvel scores and for my predicted grades I think it would be similar to yours with A/B average. Don’t worry just get sat done and send your predicted grades and Alevels after completion. You should be fine with universities like Purdue and UIUC because I have really heard of ppl going there even after the Olvels. Imagine that!

Sure I will! Thank you for your information and all the best for your uni life! ;D

Glad I cheered u up  I was in the same mood as yours two months ago. Good luck to u as well
