Premed at Colgate vs CalPoly SLO

I got into both Colgate University and CalPoly SLO as a biology major on a premed track. I was just wondering how the schools are compared for biology and success in this major.

I think i prefer the atmosphere of SLO, but i want to make sure that i’m not shooting my self in the foot for going to a mostly engineering based school that isn’t really known for biology. Is their bio program good enough to get into med school?

Thanks!

SLO also has well-known programs, some nationally recognized, such as construction management, architecture, business, agribusiness, agricultural sciences, animal science, etc.

Yes - most any four year college can. It’s not just the elites. In fact it’s far from the elite, even at the elite hospitals.

Got it thanks

Your post-graduation outcome will be determined by what you accomplish during your college years rather than which one of these fine schools you choose to attend. Go to the school you prefer.

Colgate’s premed advisory is excellent and their professors are really really strong in life sciences. My son’s introduction bio class and chemistry class was each under 30 students. That said, this is a really rigorous major and Colgate does not espouse grade inflation. He did change majors from bio relatively early which was easy to do at a small liberal arts college. Not sure if that’s a consideration for you.
Are both schools affordable for you, especially given medical school in the future. SLO is a great school that (at least per my understanding) is more known for their business, engineering, construction, architecture fields. They may be great for premed just haven’t heard many folks talk about the school with that focus. SLO is a great college town.
