It wasn’t really clear, but I thought the VICE article was saying that Labrie met the Harvard girlfriend when they were both high school seniors headed to Cambridge, not that she also attended St. Paul’s.

“Prosecutors asked for an expedited hearing and for his bail to be revoked.”
Can anyone with criminal law experience tell us what happens next? Does that mean that whoever put the $15K bail up has lost all the money? What goes on at the hearing? What would his sentence be?
Anther legal question: Would the judge be the same as his trial?
It defies explanation how an allegedly intelligent young woman could explain away his behavior at the prep school in order to justify to herself the wisdom of being involved in a romantic relationship with this guy. Even if you believe the situation was consensual, the stuff he has admitted to or which has been shown absolutely to be true should be enough to disgust any remotely discerning woman.
Both Labrie and the girlfriend are proof that being intelligent or book smart does not give one common sense or make one wise.
Are we sure the Harvard girlfriend really exists? Could that just be a BS story he told the reporter to make himself look good?
But really, what would any of us do if our adult D was dating him? I am not sure. Kind of a “bubble in a briar patch” situation.
I would not be happy if my daughter was dating Owen. My daughter is married.
I would still not be happy even if she wasn’t married. Normally I wouldn’t say anything. I think I would let my wife do most of the talking.
If my daughter were dating Owen I would have no problem. Because I would not know about it. Because my daughter would know exactly what DH and I would think about that scenario and keep that nasty piece of information to herself.
There are women out there who love dating infamous, convicted criminals. Perhaps this “girlfriend” (if she exists) is one of them. Didn’t Charles Manson and Ted Bundy have scores of women after them, even though they were in prison?
No doubt, but one would hope a school of Harvard’s caliber would be a little more discerning. They already made the mistake of admitting him, after all.
Nonetheless, I’ll believe she’s real when I see some proof.
Right, I agree. Who knows if the woman in question has actually consented to be his girlfriend.
If someone really is Own Labrie’s girlfriend, I’ll bet a big part of the psychic equation is enjoying how upset that makes her parents.
Owen Labrie’s bail hearing has been scheduled for Friday, March 18 at 1:30pm at Merrimack County Superior Court in Concord.
The girlfriend does exist. My son attends Harvard and is friendly with Owen’s girlfriend.
Oh, wow.
@ams5796 Inquiring minds want to know: What is she thinking? and What does your son think about her decision? With all that came out during that trial, regardless if one thinks it was consensual or not, there is much one could find repulsive.
Jesus, that’s horrible.
Does anyone happen to listen to a podcast called Eliza Starting at 16? It is a very sweet podcast made by a 16-year-old girl who happens to be Gretchen Rubin’s daughter. (Gretchen Rubin of Happiness Project fame). The podcast is only 10-15 minutes and its just Eliza talking about what’s she interested in, what’s stressing her out, etc.
I bring it up here because in episode 9 (released a couple of weeks ago) the thing that was stressing her out and making her sad were the “weird hookups” at her school -/ what she described as all the predatory senior boys at her school who were going after 9th grade girls and how she felt the 9th grade girls were feeling pressured into (undefined things – maybe just making out) in order to be cool. She wasn’t clear on the specifics. I don’t want to mention the school but Eliza lives on the Upper East Side.
It was very, very touching to hear a teen watching and grappling with this, and it certainly raised alarm bells in my mind about whether there were things similar to the St. Paul’s situation going on. To be clear she didnt say anything specific that would rise to that level, but it did raise questions in my mind. I certainly heard it in a different light than I would have if I wasn’t familiar with the Labrie case.
I just looked it up on iTunes, and it appears that episode – Episode 9, called “Weird Hookups” -/ has been removed. But it is still on my Instacast feed. It’s worth listening to. I was just wondering if anyone had heard it.
My son’s a man of few words. He’s home on spring break this week. The story has been playing all week about Labrie’s bail possibly being revoked. When my son first saw it on the news he said that he knew the girl (she’s a member of an organization that he’s very actively involved with) and he knows that they’re dating. I told him I was surprised anyone would date Labrie and he agreed. He did know that they had been dating for a while. Apparently, the young woman doesn’t talk about it much, but everyone knows she’s dating him.
