How much training do the private schools do for their students to help them get ready for the SAT?

NMH has an English SAT prep class that students can sign up for. No math though. The school also subscribes to Peterson’s Student Edge which has online test prep.

Kent i think has a fall or spring course for the SAT for 11th graders

This is an extra opt-in, kind of thing, with a fee attached right? Certainly, they wouldn’t mandate such a thing? Shouldn’t the education one receives be enough or am I just naive?

netthreat – There is no simple answer to your question. Because each prep school is private, there is no mandate for all of them to offer the same thing. Answers for specific schools can range from no formal preparation, providing names of tutors/courses, providing an optional course on campus for an additional fee, to a mandated program.

Ask the schools that interest you. Also ask about SAT subject test preparation. The ACT is growing in popularity so some schools might offer some prep for this.

At NMH it is not mandated, but it is free.

We received a postcard from Mercersburg advertising a summer College Prep Camp for rising 10th and 11th graders. The postcard does not mention the SAT specifically but states the program provides invaluable tools to help students navigate the college admission process.

Last week we received a mailing from Princeton Review about SAT prep classes in our area. Where did they get our contact info? I know how Mercersburg obtained our info., my d applied there last year, but I wonder how Princeton got our contact info.

At St. Andrew’s, SAT Prep (any kind of MCQ prep) goes against the school’s educational philosophy; the school doesn’t have any SAT Prep courses. The school does though, provide free subscription to an SAT prep course (online), and if you need any help in prepping for a certain subject, the teachers are always willing to help (and do have all the material and all that).
