President's Day-Feb 15 - Who's Doing a College Visit?

<p>Monday is a big day for visits - for either juniors starting to check out schools or seniors trying to make some decisions!</p>

<p>My S is a senior currently admitted into 6 out of 7 applied to …still waiting on the 7th. It’s time to start widdling down the choices! We will visit a school on his list Monday and talk specifically with someone from his major and from the honors program. Maybe get a better tour of dorms. This will be our 2nd official visit to the school. </p>

<p>Who else has college visiting plans for Monday???</p>

<p>My daughter should be visiting a school on Monday! But where is she? Skiing with her church youth group.</p>

<p>Mine will most likely be knee deep in programming his robot for March competitions. That’s okay though, most of the colleges that are nearby to visit are knee deep (or higher) in snow! I’m concentrating on April…</p>

<p>My son is visiting with a specific program, Connect with Tech, through Georgia Tech and he is on the plane right now. He has been accepted but is waiting to hear from a few more schools. So, this will give him some comparisons I think in order to make his final decision. And I think waiting to visit has given him some time to develop some really good questions. He seems to be quite ready to start college and is impatient for H.S. to end. A year ago he was still in space city. I bet he’ll have some good stories when he comes home.</p>

<p>My son attends a private university and they have no class on Monday but it looks like his school is doing tours. My D attends a public CC and she has school.
I checked the two Universities that we could see in a day to see if I could take my Soph on a tour but both are closed on Monday.</p>

<p>Hey, more power to those kids who are skiing- they just left their stressed parents at home!!!</p>

<p>I’ll be happy for a vacation once all these decisions are made… :)</p>

<p>Connect with Tech…we’ll know more tomorrow once it ends. But already I received some confirmation on something I had heard before…he was actually NOT going to be in the dorms but rather in a fraternity overnight (I’m not sure the school is aware this goes on). This could be good or bad. But siding on caution we had decided way ahead of time to have him sleep in the hotel room with dad. So Sunday night they have a open fun time at the student center and his father said he would meet him there and then they would leave for the hotel together. They would then return to campus for breakfast Monday morning and meet up with his student host. Just something to consider.</p>

<p>Connect with Tech - My family found the program to be amazingly organized and the administration anticipated all their questions. My son was not impressed with the frat boys that were his student hosts, due to the alcohol at the fraternity (observed during the tour). But he spent the night at the hotel rather than on campus and all was fine. The parents do not get a full meal/dinner on Sunday so you should plan ahead. The student however, does have dinner with his hosts at the Student Center. Basically, on Monday, there are guest speakers on all topics and the topic of security on campus was well covered and very impressive. Because my son had already been accepted we arranged for additional opportunities in the way of an additional but specific tour, a discussion with his program advisor, and permission to sit in on a specific class. It was worth the cost of the airfare. Kudos to Georgia Tech.</p>
