Prestige vs. GPA vs. Rigor?

<p>I recently committed to Baylor University and its Honors Program over Tulane, Case Western, and URochester. I don’t know much about med school admissions, so please bear with me…
The question in the title is pretty self-explanatory, and because of it, I am pretty stressed over whether Baylor will help me the most or whether I should have chosen the other “better” schools. Even though I am confident that I can get a better GPA at Baylor, will med school admissions prefer a student that went to a more prestigious university such as Tulane? Would a 3.7 GPA at Baylor be better than a 3.4 at Case? If I obtain a better GPA, but with same MCAT scores as another applicant from a prestigious university, would my chances of acceptance be better?
Also, does rigor of the curriculum affect your acceptances? I guess this is similar to the prestige vs gpa question, but does it matter if I take Honors courses or not?</p>

<p>" I am pretty stressed over whether Baylor will help me the most or whether I should have chosen the other “better” schools." - You are stressing over the non-existant issue. NO school will help you to acieve your goal, whatever it is, YOU are the only person who can help yourself to achieve or derail your goals. Keep it in mind all the time even when you feel that it is prof’s fault, the school is not meeting certain expectations or whatever. At every frustrated moment like this, go inside you and find out how you personally can help your current situation. There is absolutely no other way, not now, not in the next 4 years, not for the rest of your life. Again, remember that the place that you choose, you have decided to be the best for you personally, so make the best out it while attending there.<br>
“Also, does rigor of the curriculum affect your acceptances” - if you and anybody else had a chance to attend many different UGs taking the same classes (which is not possible), they would have found that most likely the rigor is about the same absolutely everywhere, from elite colleges to the lowest ranked unknown local 4 year colleges. I personally heard from kids at our lower ranked state public, that classes were very hard, adjustment from HS work habit to college is required everywhere even from valedictorians. If one does not recognize this fact, then they get derail from their original track. Again, worrying about difference in rigor is another non-existing issue. Be prepare to adjust upward when starting ANY college.
“Would a 3.7 GPA at Baylor be better than a 3.4 at Case?” - Again and again, why are you thinking about it. Your goal should be getting an A in every single class, including all minors if you decided to ahve them. Do not set up a goal of 3.7.<br>
Honors classes were great for my D. The biggest advantage is priority registration while in Honors. Another huge factor - much smaller classes with greater prof’s accessibility. Many students in Honors actually thought that Honors were easier since you can get so much more help.
Best wishes and again, stop worrying about nothing and another good habit - never regret what has been done but rather move forward and make the best out of it. </p>

<p>Thanks so much for your time and comment! It has helped me a lot with my situation!</p>
