I remember the discussion here last month about the film, and the many posters who found her performance not what they had in mind. I like her lots, but - best actress? This looks very good for Reese Witherspoon, which is fine by me - I’d also like to see Paul Giamatti, Rachel Weisz, and Philip Seymour Hoffman win. I would also settle for George Clooney (I can’t help it), Michelle Williams, and David Strathairn (not much chance there, I’m afraid).

I’d love to see Reese win, as well as Philip Seymour Hoffman, though Hoffman will alway stand out in my mind for his hilarious performance in Along Came Polly, which is not exactly as Oscar worthy movie…lol!

And I think Joaquin Phoenix is deserving as well. But please don’t give that Oscar to Heath Ledger. Not that I have a problem with the movie, or the subject material. But he acts so entitled like “I’m a big macho man and I kissed a boy, so gimme my Oscar”. Gag.

I hope that Keira Knightly doesn’t get it because I like her and winning the Oscar is the kiss of death.

Plus, 1 month ago, Felicity Huffman was a lock. Now, all I read about is Reese Witherspoon. Is this the Hollywood publicity machine in action?

I really liked Matt Dillon in Crash.

Why was Munich nominated? It wasn’t that good. “March of the Penguins” was better.

Part of the P&P Mafia here, liked the movie OK, thought Keira wasn’t quite right, can’t put my finger on it - good job, but Best Actress??? Actually liked her better in Pirates - scenes on the beach with Johnny D aka The Dad,well done.

I did not like the new P&P; it was too full of anachronisms and wrong portrayals of class references. I had liked Keira Knightley in Bend It Like Beckham because her tomboy profile suited the movie very well. She is all wrong for P&P. No one will convince me that, the way she portrayed, Elizabeth, the latter was capable of insights into other people’s minds and psyches or that she ever was able to sit down long enough to be well-read.
Jennifer Ehle, although a bit too old and buxom for the part, was far more convincing as someone who was both forthright and thoughtful.

I did not see the new P & P – the Jennifer Ehle/Colin Firth production is my favorite. Actually, I wasn’t even sure I wanted to see that version at first, worried that it wouldn’t live up to the book. I really liked Jennifer Ehle in the part – probably because she fit my mental image of what Elizabeth should look like. I don’t know if 26 is too old to play the part, but she was quite convincing as one who was capable of seeing the comedy of human relations.

I loved P&P but I don’t think it was an Oscar winning performance by Keira. I’m rooting for Reese and Joaquin.

I haven’t seen P&P…how do you all think Matthew McFadyen did? He’s a fave of mine from the old MI5 episodes on A&E.

Also, please don’t tell me Munich is disappointing…lol! We are going to see it for my b-day this weekend. I remember being glued to the TV when the hostages were taken. I was an 8th grader and was terrified something would happen to Olga Korbut. The whole incident made such an impression on me and my husband, who lived in Heidelburg at the time…our first understanding of what terrorism meant.

He was fabulous as Mr. Darcy!

I would love to see David Straitharn win- he is one of my favorite actors and deserves wider recognition as does Matt Dillion
Havent seen Capote- so I will perhaps do that this weekend- or Munich ( or Syriana)- Ive been trying to find lighter entertainment lately although I did go see Brokeback Mountain- which was a little melodramatic for me.
I liked Crash- but my all round favorite of the top nominated would have to be Walk the Line.
And to think that there were those who thought Phoenix would be typecast after his performance in Gladiator ( which I just saw for the first time recently- )
I have to say though that I think this years nominations are much stronger than in years past.

Unfortunately Walk the Line was not nominated in the Best Picture category. It was my favorite movie this year and I was not a big Johnny Cash fan. Joaquin was amazing in it. He doesn’t play the hollywood “game” well, which unfortunately, hurts his chances. I had to drag my husband to this movie and he loved it too.

Kyedor, my feelings exactly.
