Princeton Class or 2021 EA / RD Application thread

Guys how does princeton use our sat scores? Do they genuinely consider the superscore only. Like for example, if i have a good math score in one sitting and a good english score in another, would my poorer english score and math score respectively matter a lot?

when i visited Princeton, it was explained to me that all of our scores are put into a computer system that spits out our best scores. These are the only scores admissions counselors see.

Thanks @MedSciBud buddy

Does it matter if my Social Security wasn’t on my common application, if I’m not applying for Financial Aid? I don’t want them to think I’m lying about my citizenship or something

@wishhhh I just don’t understand why three days before decisions are due, they are still purportedly making decisions. Seems kind of odd. It’s also confusing why some people who are on quarter/semester system who haven’t sent in quarter grades still haven’t gotten a request to do so… just really confusing.

a website stated that one should have a 75th percentile score to be on the safe side cuz athletes, legacies etc pull down the sat score. Princeton’s 75th percentile is 1600. Damn!

Hmmm… I didn’t get an email about FA or about first quarter grades… then again, I’m not applying for FA and my counselor sent my first quarter grades in on time.

I think you guys should stop worrying and just wait it out; in less than 72 hours, we will know our fates!

Also, i’m pretty sure all these issues sprung up last year too. Going over the 2020 thread would clarify a lot of our confusions such as the meaning of financial aid letter, quarterly grades etc. Is there anyone who went through last year’s thread?

You guys can read the old threads and threads of other schools and see the same thing. It’s no use trying to ‘read the tea leaves’ because there isn’t some magical code to crack to find out if you are in or not.

Good luck to everyone else whose top choice is Princeton! To fellow engineering applicants, maybe fortune will bring us together!

@Yo Just my two cents as a parent of a former Princeton Tiger - I would be cautious with the assumption that athletes and legacies pull down scores. Legacies have had an approximate 30% admission rate in recent history so Princeton is still choosing the best and brightest. Athletes must meet a minimum academic index to play Ivy sports at all (as mandated by the Ivy League), and all departments must fall within one standard deviation of the school as a whole. We were amazed at the number of varsity athletes who graduated summa cum laude and with departmental awards and recognition. I know there are a few exceptional athletes who were recruited at the lower end, but in general this isn’t the case of those we’ve known over the years. It’s just as probable that other hooked applicants (perhaps children of major donors or dignitaries, or even faculty/staff) occasionally are admitted with scores on the lower end of the acceptable limits as well.

I’m going to hope that’s right^

Hype train lets go

more like HYP train amirite

@GettingRekt oh hahahaaha nice. Did anyone else apply to H and Y?

@mackyg I plan on applying there but didn’t yet since I applied Princeton early.

@VenomBuds same here. Haven’t been able to bring myself to submit many other apps until I get the Princeton rejection lol.

Does anyone know what exactly happens on Thursday when I log into the applicant portal? I want to be prepared.

I think you get like a letter, and in past years those accepted see a large orange tiger
