@a20171 Business casual is always appropriate for an interview, and would be my suggestion rather than jeans. The old adage, “you have one chance to make a first impression” still holds true. Being slightly overdressed is better than slightly under IMO.
@Cantiger looks like it’s time to go shopping haha thank you!
“would jeans and a nice top be appropriate?” No! If you are a girl, you should wear a dress or a skirt, if a boy, wear a shirt with a collar and preferably a sports jacket.
I have not yet received an interview request, or an email with interviewer contact information. Should I be worried? How long does the interview availability window last, and when is the last date by which I can expect to receive an interview request?
@CuriousBobby Provided you have checked your spam/junk folders on your e-mail and are certain you have not simply missed a contact from the interviewer, there is no reason to infer anything about the absence of correspondence from an interview. Alumni in the area are given a list of applicants to interview and while Princeton always hopes to interview all its applicants, realistically there are not enough available and willing alumni to conduct all the interviews. Students who are not offered an interview are not disadvantaged in the application process, nor does the offer or absence of an interview offer imply anything about your application.
I was deferred SCEA, but I included a link to my personal site in the Additional Information section. I checked the Google Analytics section, and I have several views from Princeton from January 10th onwards (on separate days). I did not receive any views from them before the decision day. Could this mean something?
@h99999 What is the IP address from which they accessed your site? And what tool do you use to see where the ip addresses come from?
@h99999 I would not bank on it.
At what point should I start worrying about not receiving an interview request?
I have applied to 6 Ivy Leagues and have already had interviews with Harvard, Cornell, and Columbia. I live in the Silicon Valley so alumni availability should not be an issue. I am really paranoid that I let something slip through my email. I check my inbox, my promotions tab, my spam, and my trash daily ever since I found a Columbia interview request in the trash. If I did in fact fail to catch an interview request (even though I have gone back all the way to December in all my respective inbox folders), would an interviewer resend their request? I don’t know at what point I should try to make contact the admissions department.
@avisomani the tools to see IPs that visit your site will vary, in @h99999 's case he used google analytics.
The Princeton IP addresses are published (link below). Here is what I wrote about my son’s experience last year:
Good luck!

@dewrrrett for princeton, they send an email telling you the name and email address of the interviewer that will be contacting you, and then within a few weeks that person does. If you never got that email from admissions, that means there is no alumni that is set up to be contacting you. I received the email from princeton within 3 days of sending my application. If they never contacted you with a name, its possible you won’t be receiving one but it couldn’t hurt to email admissions and express interest in having one I think.
@a20171 Alright, thank you! I will be sure to contact the Admissions Office soon.
Anybody in India got an interview??
@chipshark I applied EA and had one.
Just curious - does Princeton sometimes waitlist deferred students too? Couldn’t find anything on this.
Or do they follow that policy that deferred students can only be accepted or rejected?
@HalfPastThree Yes. They are reconsidered in the RD pool just like all RD applicants, so they can either be accepted, waitlisted, or denied.
@chipshark
I’m from bangalore, applied RD, and I received it today… What about you?
My interviewer hasn’t contacted me for two weeks… what to do? lol…
@a20171 I’ve worn jeans and a nice top to almost all of my interviews (only wore a blazer to those where I was meeting them in smart locations - ie offices) and it’s been fine! The interviewers have all worn similar comfortable clothes, and it looks a little odd to appear for a casual chat interview in starbucks wearing a suit I find.
To the person who said girls should wear dress/skirt - I never feel comfortable wearing a dress or a skirt and I think it’s much more important to turn up feeling comfortable and look nice. As they are so keen to impress upon us, interviews are meant to be informal and not hugely important in their admissions decision.
^Yes, I’ve worn a nice shirt/sweater, coat, leggings, and boots to all my interviews. I’ve also been overdressed for every one of my interviews. If I dressed more formally for mines, I’d almost certainly look out of place. (They have all been in coffee shops, though.)
