private highschools

what are the best private highschools in the country

Check out prepreview.com. There are top boarding privates: St. Paul’s school. Andover, Deerfield, Exeter (in that order I think as rated by ivy and other top college placement) and then there are schools in major cities, especially NY and LA that also are in that league.

i dont know about private schools but i know the following public schools are much better than most privates in the nation

1) International Academy - http://www.iatoday.org/</a>
2) Richard Montgomery High - http://www.portalcontrol.com/rmhs/</a>
3) Enloe High School - http://enloehs.wcpss.net/</a></p>

harvard-westlake is probably the best private high school in the west coast.

Choate Rosemary Hall - www.choate.edu

Some of the top private schools in D.C metro area are Georgetown Prep, St. Albans, and Episcopal.

Just to chime in on top schools in Detroit:

Cranbrook-Kingswood
University Liggett
Detroit Country Day School
Ann Arbor Greenhills

I go to Harvard-Westlake (in LA) and it always claims to be in the top three in the nation, including boarding schools. Who knows what that’s founded on though. Actually come to think of it I think we have the highest number of national merit finalists, or something to that effect.

Chadwick, Crossroads, Flintridge, Marlborough and Pasadena Poly are a few smaller but also excellent privates in the LA area.

Stuyvesant www.stuy.edu
Brooklyn Tech www.bths.edu

The Ten School Admissions Organization (TSAO):

The Hill School

The Lawrenceville School

Loomis Chaffee

Phillips Andover Academy

Phillips Exeter Academy

St. Paul’s School

The Taft School

i know lawrenceville. it’'s five minutes drom me.

sidwell friends and cathedral are also some of the elite schools in the metro area. A lot of the private schools in D.C teach the sons of senators, the Vanderbilts, and the Rockafellers.

I think Al Gore and a couple of Bushes went to Albans.

Now that i think abount it, i really regret not going to albans.

actually stuyvesant and brooklyn tech are public schools (that just require an entrance exam).

wow my high schools on prepreview.com … that’s so sweet

san marino high school(one of the best public high schools on the west coast)

In Los Angeles, it is generally viewed that Harvard-Westlake, Brentwood, Oakwood, Campbell Hall, Crossroads, Viewpoint and Marlborough are the best private schools.

I attend Oakwood and know that this year, the Class of 2005 was extremely successful in their college admissions and the Class of 2006 should equal or better my class.

In Arizona the best private schools are Phoenix Country Day School, Brophy College Preparatory, and Xavier College Preparatory.

ptmagnolia,

there are many top public high schools at the level of san marino in southern california. just wondering why you singled san marino out and not some others that would come to mind: beverly hills, arcadia, irvine university, palos verdes peninsula, troy, whitney, and several more.

jaug1–Oakwood, Campbell Hall and Viewpoint … good to know about these schools. As a native L.A. person, I hadn’t heard of them, probably because they are fairly small, no? Are they about the same size as Pasadena Poly? We’re lucky to have so many good private AND public schools in Los Angeles county.
