As undergrads, especially at large state universities, do BS/MD students get privileges such as being part of the honors college, better chances at research opportunities, smaller classes, or better access to professors?

I was wondering this because someone who is going to attend a BS/MD in the fall said that they get to be part of the honors program, etc. and wanted to know if that is the case for most BS/MD programs at public universities.

simply, yes it is. At most universities, the bs/md people are considered the top and have more access basically to everything… or atleast that has been my experience.

At a small NJ College like TCNJ (which offers the BS/MD program with UMDNJ), we were truly surprised to see the quality of equipment and mentors in their research labs despite a smaller student pool.

I haven’t seen such good electron microscopes during either my dissertation work in grad school or my CME at NYMC. The best part at TCNJ (IMO) is that there aren’t crowds of students fighting tooth and nail to make use of their resources (unlike at a larger University).

I am sure at most BS/MD programs offered by smaller Colleges, this is likely to be the case.

Not sure how accessible equipment is in a larger University setting for BS/MD students. Perhaps someone from Brown, NW, PennState or Lehigh BS/MD programs could provide their experiences.
