Probability of me getting into Exeter?

Intro
Hi! I was wondering about the chances of my getting into Phillips Exeter Academy. i already understand that this is a prestigious school with low application rates, but I’m still trying it out. I’m currently applying late in the application season but should finish all the application steps by the end of December. I went to a small gifted private school on the TU campus in Tulsa OK until 7th grade but my family just moved to Kansas this year. One of the reasons I’m applying so late is because my parents have been busy with the move and selling their old house and I didn’t want to hassle them by asking them to consider letting me apply to boarding school. The middle school I’m currently going to is part of the Blue Valley school system which, while esteemed in the state of Kansas, doesn’t hold up to my old school when it comes to academic opportunities.

Why i want to go to exeter

  • Since the school is so hard to get into, everyone understands the opportunities they have at the school and takes their education seriously. Therefore, I won’t be in classes with a bunch of people who just want to goof around and set back our lessons so we end up having to do more unnecessary lessons or easier more basic lessons than we were supposed to do.
  • There is a plethora of classes at multiple skill levels that are available for students and you can take classes with amazing teachers that are offered nowhere else.
  • The schools that I can currently go to for high school are either mediocre and public, or overly expensive private schools. If I went to those private schools, I would have to uproot the lives of my siblings so that I could go to a more advanced school.
  • The Harkness Method is really similar to the learning method my old school used and I flourished in that environment, while I feel suffocated at my current school.

Reasons I could be accepted

  • Last year my academic bowl (Quiz Bowl) team qualified and won the state tournament and attended the NAQT Middle School Nationals Competition in Chicago.
  • I’m currently taking advanced math classes and will be set to take precalculus in freshman year.
  • I placed second in the state last year in the statewide Oklahoma math league competition.
  • I am an avid writer and like to write informative and argumentative essays that many of my teachers at my old and new school have widely applauded
  • For the last 3 years at my old school I have led my Odyssey of the Mind team to win the nationals and state competitions and go to worlds and place in the top 50 teams.
  • If accepted, I would make a difference, not only in Exeter, but throughout my life, and I would always understand what an opportunity this school is.

Reasons I might get in

  • They don’t have that many students from the south, a lot of the people in my community who I told about applications didn’t even know what Phillips Exeter is
  • The Verfified school account is following me on Instagram, this made a lot of current student follow me and I’ve been able to talk to them a bit about how to get in.
  • This would be a big opportunity for me and others in my community, would they see that?
  • If I did get in, I would make sure to follow the non sibi moto and make a difference

Final Questions

  • how much weight does the SSAT testing have on my addmission
  • do I have a good enough reason to go?

Thanks!

NOTES: sorry! forgot to mention that i currently have an A average, and I’m taking a weighted honors geometry class at the highschool thanks!

my math track

  • 6th grade: Algebra 1
  • 7th grade: Algebra 2 & Trig (my old school was really small, so we only had enough people to geometry every other year so math class years were swapped around
  • 8th grade: precalculus

Question

  • whats the math track for PEA?

Hii! I’m also an eighth applying to boarding schools this year loll! I don’t know much about chancing, but if you are only planning to apply to Exeter, I would HIGHLY recommend checking out different schools too, maybe ones that are less competitive to get into. Something I would suggest is being more specific as to how you could make a difference in Exeter. I know that AOs love hearing about how you contribute to the community. You could include examples of that in your application. Overall, I think you’re a great candidate and good luckkk!!!

You are a highly qualified candidate, but many highly qualified candidates find themselves without an acceptance M10 because they did not cast a wide enough net. There are many wonderful schools that will meet your needs. If your LPS and nearby privates won’t meet your needs and you really want to attend BS, I strongly suggest you apply to more schools.

My Year 8 doesn’t have social media. Yet.

He can have it March 11. If I were you, I would consider going dark/private during this process.

To do so might serve you well, I suspect. But I am conservative when it comes to teens and sm.

Curious what more seasoned parents think of this?

Yeah! my list is currently exeter, andvover, groton, choate, prismis, and the hun, but if I don’t get in I’ll probably attended the local private school in my area or hun (early admission, a lot of my relatives go there). Once we moved my parents thought we should try the PS system in Kansas but it was okay.

the math track for exeter is really dependent on your placement into the curriculum before the school year starts and it ranges from 11t to 31x for your prep transition course. 11t is like a pre alg course 31x is like kinda alg 2 to precalc. keep in mind tho that lots of people have taken up to alg 2 and been placed in 11t!

Update: I actually got an okay score on the SAT! I got 2264, but I don’t know if that’s good compared to the other applicants. My cousin said that most applicants should be above the 90th percentile, which I was. I also finished my interview, which was awkward at first but sort of fun afterward. I have my essay done and final checks to be done before it’s submitted.
Good luck to all applicants! Pretty sure we can do this

You seem like a very attractive candidate. Sadly, there are more great candidates like you than seats, so luck plays an outsized role.

Best of luck to you!
