Productive activities on summer break

Hi!
I am a student who want to transfer to Ivy league school.
I want to do a productive activities on summer break when I go back to my country.
Any recommendation what should I do?
I have tons of time cuz I’m not working!

Thanks :)

Hello Angelina,

Things you can do :

Volunteer; in your country or outside your country. If you are interested to go outside your country there are some great summer programmes offered by Broadreach, Rustic Patheways etc. Just reasearch. If you cannot afford them, they offer some scholarships too.

Academic Summer Programmes; it sounds very boring, but it’s actually not that bad … If I could afford one- I would love to attend one. Different summer programmes : HarvardSP, JohnhopkinsSP, Exeter Summer School, Andover summer school… and many other ones.

-Learn something new … Piano or a foreign language. I learned piano in 3 months, and now I can play “Comptine dun autre ete”; which is easy but cool.

Ivy league huh  ; welcome in the club. Do something which would make you nationally and internationally distinctive. Take part in science fairs as Google Science Faire ( in this case prepare during summer ), and take some SAT Prep Courses maybe ?
One other off-topic thing I have to mention, this is an usual thing with “ivy-wannabe” teens( I am one of them too so no offense) today … do not be selfish or pompous in any way. If you are not compassionate and understanding toward every single person in our; your society, then you have no real chance for IvyL. They will detect your ambitions in your essays, and hopefully in your interview. If they see that your future and past ambitions did not include any other but yourself, you will not pass their challenge. Being compassionate it does not mean going to Africa with a summer program and taking a picture with an African baby, it means being nice to every single human, to every being- popular or unpopular - rich or poor- bad or good- social or sociopath- smart or dumb. Just be nice; and that’s the first step to real innovation.

I know this is probably more than you asked, but I hope I helped in some way.
Good luck!

Sincerely,
ErgoCS.
