These junior designers are much more talented than the contestants on the last season of the adult version! They are so mature, with a great sense of fashion.
You guys are funny. I am so surprised to see a thread about this on CC. My daughter, a junior in high school, is addicted to this show and today I watched the elimination show before they headed off to NY Fashion Week. Really enjoyed it.
I am not familiar with the consistent styles of the young designers, but I thought Maya’s work was fabulous and her sense of herself and fashion history a little precocious. Is she really just a teenager?
Samantha’s dress and jacket were awful. Actually just the dress, the jacket I would wear. Young Jaxson’s gown was stunning and classic to me. My daughter hated it.
I think this show is fun. I can see why my little seamstress is so dedicated to it.
All four are really talented. I think I might like Peytie’s designs the most, with Maya a close second.
The only thing I didn’t like about this last show was Zachary’s reaction to his SUPPOSED elimination. Did he really forget that Tim Gunn had one save? I also watched Maya’s and Peytie’s facial expressions when he came back into the room, and even thought they have him a big hug, you could see that they weren’t concerned.
Well, I had noticed the last two episodes the host stopped saying that Tim Gunn had a save—just that he was there to watch but would not be judging. Almost like the show wanted you to think the save wasn’t in play anymore.
I wasn’t surprised Zachary was saved, but I was unsure if Tim still had a save or not before it happened.
I’ve had to backtrack and take a look at the website to make sure I’m talking about the right kids.
So update…It was Zachary’s gown that I thought fabulous enough to wear-the one that got him eliminated. It was a little hippy, yes, and the fabrics should have been flipped, but if I stopped eating sugar and butter, by next October I would look just faaabulous in that gown.
Just watched - THRILLED for Maya and Peytie! I’ve always liked Samantha too, BUT I think she needs a little dose of humility. And while I like her designs, I agree that they are often one note.
I’m not so much a Zachary fan. I thought his design this week was one of his worst. I think the top was fit poorly and the peplum seems not very complicated. The skirt looked heavy as the judges said.
Excited to see their hometown visits! Especially Maya’s since she is from my town. I’m upset that Tim might have been here and I didn’t know it! Will be fun to see all their hometown visits.
I totally forgot to watch Thursday night and had to watch online yesterday. Wow. Maya and Peytie are amazing. I have liked Samantha in the past, too, but I did not like her look as much this week. Can’t wait to see their runway shows!
This season of Jr. has been refreshing and inspiring! In the past, the “Tim Gunn save” has had a shelf life and I assumed it had expired as well seeing as the MC hadn’t mentioned it in the last couple of episodes.
Am I really the only one who thought that Samantha’s modern silhouette of the shirt dress was smashing? I found it unique and fresh…so much so that I could swear I heard DVF calling
I’m really not a fan of Zachary, his clothing always feels “old” to me and his fabric choices (to me) questionable, I don’t see anything particularly new and cutting edge. Payte’s fabric choices are cutting edge, and I think Maya has an interesting perspective, but I don’t think she’s going to win. To me it’s a toss between Samantha and Payte.
I love how smart and sweet these kids are to one another, and how nurturing Tim is without pandering to their age. He’s kind of my hero.
FInally got to watch the first part of the finale last night. You could see the stress of the final collection - and maybe the traveling - take it’s toll on those kids!
Looks like they all have some issues to work out. I find myself being influenced by the way the producers set up the stories/drama. Samantha seems really far behind - does that mean she’ll pull it all together and win?! Zach seems to be getting flack for designing “too old” - will that pay off and result in a win???
I still think that Maya’s collection show a lot of promise and is a good blend of creative, interesting, youth but not too young, etc. I do wish she had a LITTLE more color - white is hard to fall in love with for me.
Samantha’s stuff is cool but wow, I feel so overdone for her! If I see one more big chunky pocket…!!
Peytie’s looks are just so fun and spirited. The colors, the patterns, the fun and flirty nature. Amazing those gold embellishments her sister did!
Zach’s designs are definitely more mature and “fancy” looking to me. I’m not sure about the ball gown - it’s pretty, but is it nothing new???
All personal taste of course.
It was also interesting to see their families. I was sad to not get hometown visits. Their families seemed pretty normal!
Loved Maya’s yellow, black, and white and now feel she could win. Peytie’s collection might be a little too eclectic. Samantha’s looks are too boxy. Zachaary seems to be designing for women older than me and I see no cohesiveness. One of my Toledo friend said Maya has been pretty tight-lipped, as expected, but said Kelly Osborne was the most helpful on the show. Surprising!!!
I love these kids, all of them on PRJ. When the final four got back to the workroom with their collections in the garment bags and started unzipping the bags to “reveal” their creations, they were all so cute.
I’m rooting for Maya.
And I have loved Kelly Osborne as a judge … except for all her weird lipstick colors. I think she has really shown some knowledge, both for fashion and for the sewing and construction side of things too.
^^^Not to mention, Kelly seems wonderful with the kids. Offers good constructive advice, is sympathetic when it’s appropriate, encouraging - everything. Christian is decent too - I didn’t watch his season so don’t know his normal personality. But he seems to be decently “kid oriented”. Really, it’s a pretty good team. The Seventeen lady is a little formal, but not bad.
I was happy to see how supportive the families were. On the regular Project Runway, it seems like a lot of them come from really troubled family backgrounds. Hopefully this is a sign of hope for the younger generation. Or, maybe the producers cast young people with families that would be able to deal with the competition.
I am so happy that Maya won. She was my favorite from early on – and I still can’t believe she’s only 14! I hope she never loses her self-confidence. But I liked all of them, and thought they were all very talented – something I’m not sure I’ve ever been able to say about the finalists in a season of the “grown up” Project Runway! Such lovely kids.
