Project Runway - new season

I liked Laura, but I think some of her designs were one step from a pinafore. I think it will come down to Victor and Anya + someone ultimately irrelevant at the finale. It will be interesting as their styles are so different and the show should be fun as a result!
I hope Anya call pull it out with really interesting variety. It will be a nice change of pace for a non-whiner to win!

I have to say that I don’t count out Kim. She could surprise.

I would like to see what Kim comes up with when she’s not under so much pressure. The last time she changed her mind so many times, and if I recall, she has the tendency to abandon one idea for another at the last minute. I’m also curious to see what Anya comes up with when she’s on her own and doesn’t have the “help” that people seem to think has given her undue advantage. Seems to me I’ve heard repeatedly that designers work in teams for the sole purpose of sharing ideas, and this has happened on PR many times before. Nothing out of the norm there. Perhaps she’ll surprise us all and make a jacket. I would consider that a big achievement for a non-sewer.

Guess I’m one of the few who like Josh! I enjoy that he HAS a personality and I think while he can be over the top, he is passionate. I enjoy his colorfulness!

Laura and Kimberly were/are throwaways for me.

And Viktor is heads above all in terms of craftsmanship. Go Viktor!

Okay - reactions to last night’s show?

I thought it was a cheat to take all four to fashion week. I must admit, for a few glorious seconds I actually though - I ACTUALLY BELIEVED - that Anya was going home. (I really thought that both she and Kimberly could have, maybe should have, gone home.) But silly me, I forgot how much the judges loved Anya. They’d never send her home before fashion week.

I thought Viktor’s mini-collection was much better than that of anyone else.

Anya made it in based on her work during the season, certainly not that ugly bathing suit or poorly made ‘gown’. They are clearly pimping her for the win, just like ‘granny pants’ chick last season. I love Viktor’s work. Josh surprised me last night - his mini-collection was tight and well presented, however, he’s got some clunkers on the rest of his rack.

Josh surprised me too. I liked all three pieces except for the horrible back to the gown…catwoman look NOT good for most. Viktor’s work was exceptional. He did squeeze 5 looks into 3, but each piece was really stunning.

I was disappointed with Anya. I didn’t expect her to crumble under the pressure like she did after showing composure most of the time. Her two beige-y dresses looked very sad and poorly made. The fabrics she showed Tim at her home were so beautiful, then she shows two very similar (and dull) solids. Didn’t make much sense but the stress levels must be so high. I’m still glad she’s staying for fashion week.

Am I the only one who hated Kimberly’s collection? Wow the colors were just awful and that skirt was hideous! It seemed to move and have a life of it’s own!

I agree that Kimberly’s collection was the weakest. But I am still a little ticked off that they took all 4. I think they did so because they wanted Anya and there was no way her collection could justify a win. I love the show, but am tired of the games.

If we have another travesty next week with Josh winning over Viktor, like Gretchen winning, when both Gretchen and Josh should have been eliminated midway through the season due to really horrible stuff but were saved because they have good “production value” . . . well, I may just have to delete Project Runway from my DVR. I like Anya and she has done some good things, but Viktor has really DESIGNED and they are complicated designs that take some talent to sew. Kimberly’s designs last night look straight out of the 80’s (parachute pants maybe???!). Josh’s first jacket was very nice, but the pink pants were horrendous. I thought his short black dress was okay too, and the front of the long flowy black dress was cool but the back was just weird.

All that being said, Mondo, Uli, Jillian, Rami, even Chris March would have wiped the floor with this season’s designers!

What scout said. And I thought Kimberley’s collection when she showed it to Tim looked much more appealing that the items she chose for the runway.

The reaction is pretty much the same over at the “Tom and Lorenzo” Project Runway blog - resigned frustration over Anya’s inclusion in Fashion Week and approval (more or less) of Viktor’s stuff.

If you haven’t seen T&R’s fashion blog, it’s a hoot! The comments are pretty funny, too: “You would think a designer with a Caribean background would know better than to make a swimsuit out of WOOL…”

Count me as one who was very happy that they went for four designers. I think Anya has been consistently stronger than Josh and Kimberly and that the judges factored that in. Kimberly wants it so bad that I was glad she got to go. And Josh came through enough that he had to go through. I was hoping he’d be the one not to go to Fashion Week. But I am glad Anya will go. I was sorry to see her choke. I think she felt she needed to do new things rather than what she does well.

This confirms everything Tom and Lorenzo have been saying about the season being accommodated for Anya.

I’m actually surprised that Joshua wasn’t given his Michael Costello moment. At least the judges are being consistent this season.

Major disappointment from Anya. So sad. I’m also glad she’s still in it. I love the way she uses prints. I did find it interesting that Josh was apparently an accomplished athlete in hs. It made me see his designs differently, i.e., I’m now looking at his jacket as rather Nike-ish or Under Armour-ish. Not to mention his colors are so bright they’re practically neon.

I’m so happy that Anya won! Her collection was just beautiful, especially that first blue print gown.

I can’t believe the judges thought Josh’s collection was good. It looked very amateurish to me, especially the use of those day-glo colors. The green shorts were ridiculous!

Victor and Kimberly had some gorgeous looks, too. I loved Kimberly’s cream colored pants and top and Victor’s long print gown and his short strapless print dress.

Anya is one note… or at least she showed one note. What does it say that she won with at least 3 garments she made in a panic at the end and not from the fabric she had spent 9000$ on? She reminds me to much of that German woman Yuli who lived in Florida… same sort of stuff…

Josh must be frustrated. Viktor blew it…it was his to win and he went too one note…with all the black/boring… I thought Joshua’s green shorts were awful. He made a 90 pound model look like she had big thighs!

I found Anya’s work uninspiring, but also didn’t really care for anyone else’s, and the fact that she was so obviously the judges’ chosen one from day one made for a very boring season. This show has fallen so far since it moved to Lifetime. The product placement has become absurd, and except for Mondo last season, I don’t think there’s been a single designer who was anything special–in the show’s early years, there were so many exciting designers. Sometimes I think there just aren’t that many talented individuals out there, and it’s just not possible to scare up 15 or so great contestants every 12 months.

I was also surprised the judges liked Josh’s collection. Those colors - shudder. And the one off the shoulder dress looked exactly like one he made at a previous episode.

Shame about Victor. Half his collection was fabulous, the other half - agreed with the judges about the see through stuff. The one see through dress made me think of last season’s granny pants (with the black underpart of the dress). Coming into the show tonight, I expected him to win.He did blow it.

Kim had a some very nice looks, though I was not fond of some of the striped blue fabrics. But she had a coupe of fabulous outfits.

Absolutely loved that first dress of Anya’s. it was just gorgeous - colors, style, everything. Jawdropping. I am also glad she won. I like her style a lot.

Tom and Lorenzo predicted this outcome mid season. It wasn’t really a difficult guess, though.

This season was very unimpressive. The people who actually went through with their threats not to watch this season made a good choice.

Michael K made an interesting comment about Anya’s stuff that real woman need to wear bras and that’s not possible with most of her clothes. The only people that can wear her stuff are tall, size 2 models.

Real women can wear Viktor’s clothes (except for those horrific black things). They are tailored & timeless. He did blow it last night, although I wonder if the judges had already picked Anya, so no matter what he showed it didn’t matter.
