Project Runway Season 12

I wasn’t particularly blown away by any of the items shown on this latest episode. I liked the fabric Helen had made (photo of her boyfriend’s eye), but not for the garment she made it in (it looked tie-dyed, and might have worked better on something super modern). The cape stuff was awesome the first time she showed it (it was indeed “fresh”), but by the end of the season, I’ve had enough already.

Favorite moment(s) of the episode…the ugly dolls the kids at Alexandria’s Camp Couture made, depicting the contestants and Tim! Hilarious. And how cute was the little “Son of a Gunn” pillow.

I’m afraid I’m tiring of the show, but I don’t really want to stop watching because I really love the premise, the process, the challenge presented, and most of the time, the outcome.

Nice article in today’s NYTimes on Tim Gunn. He spoke in our town last spring as a fundraiser. Very nice guy. I was not aware he was a college professor and only came into wealth after the first few seasons of Porject Runway.

<a href=“Tim Gunn: A Lifetime of Making It Work - The New York Times”>Tim Gunn: A Lifetime of Making It Work - The New York Times;

I read that article yesterday, and it only made me love Tim Gunn even more, if that’s possible. I have a mini crush on him. Everything about him.

I adore Tim Gunn. He has such a kind spirit and he’s so encouraging to all the contestants but he also knows when to be tough on them.

from the article:

Well, that just that breaks my heart.

My uncle (also FBI) used to play poker with Tim Gunn’s father and he said that his dad was pretty hard on Tim during his adolescence .

I can imagine his parents being very stiff and rigid. To an extent he himself gives off that vibe, UNTIL he begins the mentoring process and you see the warmth and care he exudes. When my D started at Parsons he was still there as chair of the fashion department. He was a huge influence on her. Once he told her (as he was laughing) “I would wear those!” to a pair of thigh-high boots she designed with paisley insets that matched a jacket she designed. She said his laugh was infectious, and he always patted students as he would walk around the school and would talk with everyone.

I would love to get hold of the envelop with the “tome” his mother wrote him after he publicly came out.

I have been up and down on Alexandria this season - her style, her attitude, etc. But I have to say, that sewing program she runs for children - what a wonderful, cool thing! The dolls the kids made were hilarious! (they should auction them off for charity!) I love when Tim goes to visit the contestants in their home environment.

Justin deserved the spot to the finale. So happy for him and so happy for his growth over the season. I love his passion for his work and for his personal challenges. Thought it was very thought provoking - his 3 looks - representing the 3 stages of his deaf/hearing life. Wow, really had an impact on me.

Alexandria may have not had color in her collection (which is usually a negative to me) but her designs looked classy and expensive. Helen’s on the other hand looked plain and boring. She has some maturing to do in many ways.

Dom’s reaction when Alexandria got a spot - ugh. At first I thought she reacted that way because now there was going to be 4 competing instead of 3 at fashion week. Then I realized, she was upset because if Alexandria was in, then Helen was out!

I know I’m in the minority here, but while I think she has skills and have liked many of her looks, Dom’s attitude has grown to bug me the last several weeks. I have not seen the runway shows yet (as some of you have online) but based on personalities (am I shallow?! ) I hope Dom does not win.

Going to read the Tim Gunn article - who doesn’t love Tim!!?

I love that it was Tim who said, as the show was being put together, that the workroom should not be open 24/7.

I have heard that Dom was quite immature on social media (and so was Helen).

Yay…

Deserved!..

Justin was my very favorite, especially as an individual. When it came down to the two girls, I told my husband I was going to throw my laptop at the TV at Alexandria won. Thank goodness Dom won and saved us hundreds!

I like Justin, too. But his whole story with the disability and the getting kicked off to be saved by Tim and the crying when he made over his rejection look…just too much. I would have been so clich

Thrilled with the result.

I wasn’t impressed with anyone’s collection, and in fact liked many of the pieces produced on the fly in the preceding weeks far more than what the contestants came up with for Fashion Week. Braden’s stuff was particularly disappointing. As for Dom, I think she has a future in fabric design, but her clothing isn’t anything special (and good grief, she certainly can’t dress herself), and, like most of the past winners, we’ll likely never hear of her again. As for Justin, I think his whole tale of woe about how no one ever thought he could accomplish anything in life is a pile of nonsense, and I’m glad his blatant attempt to manipulate the judges–which did a disservice to the entire deaf community–didn’t work. As he mentioned, he never won a challenge, and let’s not forget that one of his efforts was so poor that he was selected for elimination. It was absurd to think he could win.

Exactly to all of it!!! I was so sick of Alexandria by the end of it.

I think I dreamed last night that I had an affair with Justin. Only he was Armenian. And not deaf. And on the team of some Olympic sport that involved brooms but wasn’t curling.

As for Dom, if this kickstarts a career in textile design, so much the better. As for all of these contest shows…singing, dancing, modeling, cooking, fashion design…my hope for all of the contestants is that their participation makes it a bit easier for them to be hired in a field they love.(Of course, when a person like Ken demonstrates that he has tremendous anger issues, it likely has the opposite effect.)

Exactly. The contestants should all treat it as a giant job interview.

I agree. I am pretty happy with the result. I was however with Alexandria’s collection which looks well-tailored and cohesive and far better than most of what she produced during the competition. Same with Justin. Braden who is probably the most talented of them all produced a disappointing collection. While some of his looks were really good, it wasn’t cohesive. I do hope for Dom that this will be a stepping off point for her career and that she won’t end up never to be seen or heard from again.

I never really liked Alexandra or her clothing, but her kids design center warmed my heart and I actually liked her final collection. As for Dom…I thought her collection was good, but won’t be buying any of the shower curtain item.

I really liked Justin’s Tide challenge. I don’t know about you guys, but I wouldn’t even think about putting any of the Tide designs in a washing machine.

It was fun to spy some of the previous contestants in the audience, but I didn’t see Ken!
