PSAT 2011 Wednesday Answer Thread

i feel like the writing curve is going to be insane since it was definitely a relatively easy test.

xcstar; that was my reasoning too for the security question. There was a portion of the sentence in between commas, which is unnecessary, so I took that part out and tried each of the choices. All but two didn’t make sense when you removed the unnecessary words. The two choices I was between were “you should not” and D or E (it was one of the last choices) which was slightly longer than “you should not” but was similar. I put “you should not.”

For the either question about something caused as a result of either blah or blah, what did you guys get? I chose the choice that didn’t have a comma in it, and it was like “as a result of either blah or blah.” The other choices had commas in them I think, which made the sentence sound awkward. Does anyone remember this question?

My curve prediction:
CR: 80 80 78 75 72 70 68
Math: 80 75 71 69 67 66 64
Writing: 80 74 71 70 68 66 65

Do you expect the critical reading curve harder or easier than last years test?

Cr curve will prob be a tad easier. M probably as hard as usual. And W is definitely going to be a very hard curve.

@IDCMineLife: if those are the curves, I’m going to cry. D: Why did I have to miss two writing problems… x_x

@IDCMineLife - 74 for -1 on Writing? Damn, I don’t think so.

@KaChow: Forget the 74, how about a 71 for -2? I didn’t expect it to be THAT crazy. x_e
And math… well. I guess it was a little easier than last year’s, so it’s understandable that it’s 75.

@IDCMineLife:

All 3 of those seem a bit harsh. Make that a lot harsh.
First of all, the CR curve you predicted is pretty much a standard one. This particular CR was exceptionally difficult.

Second of all, I don’t think I’ve EVER seen a math curve with a -1 being a 75. Especially because of the fill in the blank questions, a -1 would be, at worst, a 76…

And writing…? -6 for missing one question will NEVER happen.

Why is it ONLY ME who thought CR was easier than past tests? Dx
I’m praying -2 on W is >= 74, and -1 M is >=76.

Does anyone still remember the options on “Vulgar masses”?

You thought it was easier…? >_<
I was about to tear my hair out… it seemed even harder than the practice PSAT ones. And that curve was unusually generous already.

I’m not quite sure about the W, but I’m pretty confident that -1 M will be >=76.

Usually I bomb CR. Not usually. I ALWAYS. This time… I don’t know what happened! My answers agree with all but one on CC’s consolidated list.
74 for -2 is on the brink for me, but it was 75 last year.
Perhaps I’m just bad at grammar. But psh, English… who needs that?
Will schools receive scores all at the same time?

Can someone tell me the contexts for the urban sprawl passage questions? I don’t remember the other choices for the questions.

-2 on Math would be pretty bad wouldn’t it? Because I think I might’ve screwed myself on my strongest section. :confused: It seems like there is still debate on the thieves question (I put E). So I think be down 2 M, 2-3 R, and 1-2 W… hopefully I get more sleep for the real SAT lol.

In the writing skills section, would the parliament question be for they whom? Since They is an object within a modifier?

wait was the misanthropic one the problem that included answers such as esoteric and recalcitrant…?

It’s was misanthrope can’t believe I missed it. I put frikken recalcitrant

Sent from my Desire HD using CC App

I put this too -_- but everyone else SATs concession Idk why

What were the answers to the end of the writing sections, improving paragraphs part.

@ComeOnHarvard- I chose A too…it made the most sense if you ask me…

Yeah the CR and Math was easier on the real test to me, but I will agree with you on the W
