**PSAT Discussion Thread 2015**

@cyberX I thought that finalist is determined by PSAT, SAT, and the essay?

My son made a 211 for Mississippi. One of his good friends made a 207. Last year’s cutoff of 209 was the highest ever, so we’re feeling pretty good.

I wouldn’t put too much faith in the Prepscholar chart, but I do think it’s a good bet that the cutoff should be at least a few points lower everywhere.

Mamelot, where do you find the concordance table?

@atr123 according to the concordance tables (which are preliminary, mind you), a 1440 corresponds to about a 214 last year. What was the cut-off in FL?

Does anyone think a 205 will make it from MS?

@glassflowers Actually you’re right. I misread and thought that finalists had to complete the application to get a scholarship. Thanks for the headsup.

@cyberX most semifinalists become finalists. They have to take the SAT to confirm their score, and have grades and accomplishments to reinforce their score. I don’t think they look at your PSAT score again after you’ve been chosen as a semifinalist.

How do you know what the cutoff score is for Mississippi this year (class of 2017)?

Here you go, @beaglemom. It was just released yesterday I think, and was posted here yesterday but of course that was several thousand posts ago LOL:

Addendum: these are preliminary. I think finals will be released in May or thereabouts. So we can’t say FOR SURE that the new cut-offs will be a bit lower but logic and preliminary results do suggest it.

@MS2015 cutoffs aren’t released until september.

@mamelot I believe it was 211 last year

Will our PSAT scores have a large bearing on whether we can qualify for Finalist or not?

So, on my son’s report it gives SI as 218. On concordance table it translates score of 1460 to 220. Which is the number we go by?

@EarlVanDorn @beaglemom @Mamelot I’m very much hoping you are correct that the cut off will drop, but think I’m going to be pleasantly surprised if it does.

Here are the concordance tables.

Not sure why my score isn’t up yet,it only has last years. Perhaps I didn’t write an email, or could it just be late? Has anyone else not received their score yet?

@MrAustere, you and my kid are in the same boat. CB said that if you didn’t put an email address on the test booklet, you’d need an access code which your school counselor should have. If you put an email address that had not been previously registered with CB, an email from CB with the access code was sent to that email address yesterday. If you didn’t get that email, then your counselor is the only person who can help you getting your score.

Son is sophomore this year. Score 1430 (720 R&W, 710 M). Selection index is 215. All just for practice I guess since he is class of 2018. We are in KY. Have read some on this process but not totally clear, but it looks to me that historically this would have been good enough in KY to be NMSF, or at least right on the line? Any feedback appreciated.

@LOUKYDAD Does your son practice? Or is he naturally good at standardized tests?

@Bearsgarden Thanks! I can’t remember if I put my email or not, as I didn’t want to do students search program.

A 1470 (MNSC Index 219) is probably good enough for semifinalist in Ohio, right? Also, do they consider this psat score when deciding who becomes a finalist, or even winner?
