@KrazyKing5461 not at all. The only people who would be posting on college confidential at like 6-10 in the morning are people who would do well anyways. Not to mention if there are people who did poorly looking at this thread they probably wouldnt bother posting their scores. I’ve asked a few of the “smart” kids at my school and im pretty positive the cutoffs will be lower than previous years
Does anyone know the formula for calculating selection index? I’m having trouble finding a way to see if I made cutoff…
Daughter got a 1490 with an SI of 223. Even if she makes National Merit Semifinalist, she will not continue on in the competition because she took ACT and got a 35. Don’t want to jinx it by maybe doing less well on the SAT.
Just a clarifying questions. If the max score last year was 1600 and now 1520, I assume the section scores maxes too at 760 instead of 800. Based on that, shouldn’t the old cut-offs go down? That is what some predicted, but not sure the amount is clear. We are in one the v. high states, so even with that, likely insufficient, but just curious.
Only my scores from last year show up. I don’t remember which email I used on the test. Someone please tell me how I can get my scores!
S2 got 1510 in CA. 750 (reading) 760(math) miss one in each section, that’s 226. Why do they make it so complex this year? ?
KrazyKing5461 Posters are not a good barometer of the overall population. Cannot see S’s scores…did get through to CB and they say Access Code will be e-mailed…not sure when.
Are the cut offs usually accurate from previous years? I got 209 SI but I am from ND so the previous cut off was 204…
S has 1480 and 220 in CA. Will that be enough for NMSF?
If I qualify as a semi-finalist, what SAT score do I need?
“Won’t be enough” for what? NMSF or NMF or NMC? Concordance Table says 1450 is equal 217 as you point out…I would assume that is good enough for NMC
@KrazyKing5461 Pretty sure the only people who actually share their scores are the ones who think they did good enough to make NM. If I got anything lower than the 99th percentile I’d probably panic and not share my scores.
Just a prediction, but I think my SI score is going to be right on the bubble for National Merit in my state, CA. I got a 220 this year and last year’s cutoff was 222. What do people think?
I got 740 in each for a 1480 with an index of 222, 99th national percentile. Do you think this is good enough for Massachusetts?
1450+/1600 seems reasonable. Idk the actual score requirement or if there even is one but that seems reasonably accurate
@beaglemom I think you are correct. The concordance tables say that my D3’s score from the 2015 PSAT would have resulted in a SI three points higher than the one assigned her. Not sure how much but I think they all have to come down at least a little. Wondering if it varies by state.
Reading/Writing 730 Math 740 1470 with a Selection Index of 220 for PSAT friendly Alabama. [ Reading (-4) 36 ] [ Writing (-1) 37 ] [ Math (-3) Math NC (-2) 37.0 ]
@intheairtonight just take your section scores (max of 38), add them up and multiply that by two. That will be your SI.
@Waldoizhere For the old SAT, would that translate to about a 2300/2400?
Got 1500 with 224 NMSC in CA. While that may be good for semifinalist, I don’t think it’s enough for finalist. Btw, is finalist decided only by PSAT scores?
Also, it says I ommitted one question in Reading when I’m 100% sure I did all of them. Should I call and ask for a recheck?
