**PSAT Discussion Thread 2015**

OK, we are not alone. Thanks!

@ro2400 September

No access code email yet. There was a post above from someone who called CB and was told they were being sent in wavs over the next few days.

@ro2400 I believe they release the NM Commended score this spring, but Semifinalists will not be notified until late August (that is when ds was notified this past year) or early September.

@GoAskDad, under Total Score, there’s a box “View Details”. Click it and the next screen should give you NMSC Index tap on top. Click on it and you should see your DS’s SI. Keep it in mind the score is out of 228, not 240. I don’t know why they make it so complex this year! Good luck!

No scores No emails for either boy. @mtrosemom if you have access to you sons CB account you can update the information to include your email and click a button to have everything they send your kids cc’d to you.

I am beyond frustrated!

I’m in pa still no scores

I know this is all guess work…but generally can we just subtract 6 points from the last year’s cut-off of our state to predict the new cut-off? I’m from California where the cut-off last year was a 223/240, and this time I got a 217/240 which I don’t think will qualify…do you think I can at least get commended? It says 99th percentile in every single category but idk… :(.

i made the 99% cut but my SI is a 210… 760 math 670 reading/writing… idk if that will get me national merit… any insight?

@JuicyMango you got a 217 out of 228 right?

My D is a sophomore. She has been given two different percentiles for each score/subscore. Is it the same for juniors? If so, which percentile is the one that counts? The “Nationally Representative Sample Percentile” or “Your PSAT/NMSQT User Percentile - National”?

OK, thank you, @payn4ward - I see the SI score now, on the printed report. Do we compare that SI score to the scores we’ve seen in past years? So, for example, my state had a 213 NMSF cut-off last year. Do I compare that SI score to 213? That would be fantastic if true, but somehow I doubt I have a grasp of it…

I don’t know much about the National Merit stuff associated with the PSAT. When are semifinalists announced, and how will we receive information if we’ve qualified?

1490 CA SI 222
Kinda disappointed but whatever. Hopefully I make the cutoff

Thank you, too, @sdhotmama - I should have been reading up on all this prior to today, obviously. But overall I think the news for my DS is good & I’m happy for him. Score doesn’t count this year though, so do not want to count chickens…

I believe if my son got 1 more correct in Reading or Writing, his SI would move from 221 to 223. He got 5x in Reading (36), 1x in writing (37) and 3x in Math (37.5).

Its crazy that 1x in Writing drops you 1 point for SI. How can that be? It means the writing portion was WAY too easy.

@JuicyMango if it shows 99 percentile in every category, then I would think you have a good shot at commended since that is usually set at the top 1 percent nationally. As far as trying to guess nmsf, I can’t even try.

in your score report, does anyone have an asterisk next to your NMSC SI? i have no asterisk…

Unfortunately, we can’t use the Prepscholar estimates after all. They were based on the very limited information that Prepscholar had before. Now we have the new information in the conversion tables, see moshot #1416 p. 95. See further discussion in BunnyBlue #1470 p. 98, and moshot #1597 p 107. As you can see, some states may have higher cutoffs, some lower, and some the same. In general, cutoffs that used to be very high, like 223 or 224, are predicted by some of us amateur guessers to be somewhat lower, while cutoffs that used to be around 213 or 214 could possibly be higher or lower.

I got a 215 but Pennsylvania’s cutoff last year was a 216…it should be close, in any case. I’m hoping that’s enough but my guess is it won’t be
