**PSAT Discussion Thread 2015**

@3scoutsmom, I think that her school got notified. There may also be a letter sent out. I know that my daughter knew what the cutoff score was through her school, and knew she had to wait to September to see what the state cut off was. It may be that the school let the kids know who was above the cutoff, and by that they deduced the cutoff. It is zeroed in on pretty quickly on this website too by kids and parents posting if their kid made the cut.

@ArachnoMe Just out of curiosity, what was your national percentile??? That may be right on the line for NY. Depending on the cutoff, it could be anywhere from 208-218.

My score is in the 99th percentile nationally

We still only see scores from last year. We need that access code, but I don’t know how to find it ~X(

My son got 1410 (98% RW, 99% math, & 99% overall). SI was 208/228. How do I compare that number to previous state cutoff scores out of 240? KY has ranged from 208-212 but that is out of 240 so I cannot just look at his score of 208 since it is out of 228.

U guys complain about the cutoff but some of us still got no scores

@coffeeaddicted These are my thoughts on how to predict whether your score is high enough or not…and I have no idea if they are accurate, but it seems logical to ME.

Take your 4 digit score and look at the concordance chart. That should provide you with an estimate of previous yrs’ SI score. If that score and this yr’s SI score are both above historical cut offs for your state, you are probably going to make NMSF.

@ArachnoMe Yeah, you’ll probably be right on the cutoff line. It’s gonna be a nerve wracking 8 months for you lol.

OMG I GOT A 211 WILL I BE A SEMIFINALIST?? I’m from Illinois, last year the cut off was 215…it makes sense that cutoffs will be a little lower this year because its out of 228 instead of 240…and my index isn’t that much lower than last years cutoffs, so it makes sense that I be a semifinalist???

@tigerrocks13 99th

how do you view the SI on CB???

How is everyone getting their Selection Index thingie? it just says i got 1470

I got a 620/760 on the reading and then I got a 740/760 on the math which lead to an overall score of 1360/1520. I hit the 98th percentile with an index of 198. What all does this mean and what can I do with it?

@maksbow If your on the college board website, its the fourth tab…but also its a very simple formula…its just your (reading+writing+math)*(2)…but its like those scores that are 34, 35, etc.

@mtrosemom I don’t have my Ds either. Waiting for it to come in email. Will call GC end of day tomorrow if it hasn’t arrived. CB said it should be today though, so I will patiently wait

@songmino You got the same as me, 220 selection index.

@alltoomuch its just that some states are more competitive than others…for example California students might be prepped more etc., for figuring out NMSQT they always look at state averages, so just be looking at whatever state you live in to figure it out

@chillkitty I hope that you will reconsider about taking your daughter out of the running for National Merit Finalist or Scholar (because you fear that a possible low SAT score might diminish her super high ACT) . At our school we were told that most colleges look only at the test (ACT or SAT) with the better score, and do not consider the lower of the two. You could check with the colleges she is considering applying to to see if this is true.

@loveispancakes im jealous of how mpositive you are. Im from illinois and got a 214 and am i nervous wreck

@loveispancakes. As a 9th grader, she got a SI of 197. Based on PrepScholar estimates, her current 9th grade score qualifies her in some state…i.e. Alabama. That seems unbelievable?
