Commended status will be awarded to students who score higher than the about the 97th percentile. I don’t think college board has published any percentiles by state… only national in the score reports.
My friend wants to know if 1300 is commended. I tild him no.
When you guys say percentile which one are you talking about?
@nillupa What percentile did your friend score? What was the NM SI? 1300 may be commended based on the state you live in.
Actually… commended status is independent of state. Just need to be around 97% nationally.
@jerzmaster he has two percentiles. National is 97%
@jerzmaster do you think I will be nmsf in texas with 1480?
Your total score (0-1520) scale should have a percentile associated with it in the college board report.
There are two he said. The very first one is 97%
I am in 99% with 1480. Will that qualify
@nillupa Actually a score of 1300 might be in the 97th percentile, which would be commended. Don’t have the data yet. A lot would depend on whether your friend’s score was loaded towards math or verbal. Better to be verbal.
@EarlVanDorn he got 700 math 600 verbAl
@nillupa I think you will easily be NMSF in Texas. I also think your friend has a great shot to be commended. The NMSC will weight more heavily on the reading and writing… so it makes a difference in how the 1300 total score is split. He will have a better chance if his reading and writing score is higher than his math.

Guys please tell me which percentile you guys are refering to? The national one or user national?
@nillupa The 1480 is a really good score, but the score that really matters is your selection score. Also, it really depends on which state you are in. If you live in some states you win with like a 2. In Massachusetts or California you almost have to have a perfect score.
Ok thank you
@nillupa I am talking about the nationally representative sample percentile. And not even CA needs a perfect score for NMSF status…I think maybe EarlVanDorn was being sarcastic.
The add scores process is not working for me. It goes through but it does not find any scores??
@jerzmaster CA isn’t even top 3… NJ, D.C., and Massachusetts all had better scores last time. But the perfect score thing is straight up wrong. There won’t be more than 20-25 perfect scores in most every state (maybe CA because of its large pop.).
