@texture No one knows the selection index for commended status yet. Your selection index is based on your 3 category scores added up times 2.
Here is a FAQ thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/national-merit-scholarships/1365011-faq-for-the-psat-sat-nmsf-nmf-process.html
Also, do you have any advice on how to score higher in the math section?
@tonystarkofwinterfell Yes, Mr. Perfect PSAT score will need to take the new SAT to continue in the NMSC program
@texture Did you use the online Khan program? Or buy a study guide? I recommend using these study materials and then practicing problems. Math should be one thing students can improve by working at it hard.
1490, 224 in Colorado so I’m not too worried. How are some of you figuring these huge $100,000+ (or still relatively large) scholarships if you qualify? I thought you only get $2,500 for being a finalist and winning the scholarship.
How well do we need to do on the new SAT to become a NMF? And will the writing portion be required?
@jerzmaster I did both! I just struggle at applying properties like in the no calculator section. Solving equations, looking at graphs, systems of equations…etc I’m fine with.

In CA.
@texture You are obviously a very good student. Focus on the problems you struggle with the most and practice, practice, practice. You have already done very well on the PSAT and should expect to do well on the SAT also.
@jerzmaster Ms., actually. Funny how you automatically assumed I was a boy because of my PSAT score (or my username, but neither are valid comparison points anyways).
@jrob1765 There are numerous scholarships available for NMF. You should google it and see. The dollar amounts are based on the schools offering the scholarships. A private school offering full tuition NMF scholarships will total a huge number.

LOL… tonystarkofwinterfall seems like a masculine username. I certainly do not think boys score better than girls! Please pardon me if I have offended.

Assuming I become a NMSF, will I have to take the SAT again if I’ve already taken the old one and done really well? I don’t want to take the new one…
@KrazyKing5461 Did you take the SAT after October 2014? If so, I think you may be able to use that score
@KrazyKing5461 I’m think they just set a time period in which you have to take the SAT. I’m pretty sure its any SAT your sophomore year up to the Dec SAT your senior year.
1460, 216, 99th percentile
I think it will be from Oct 2014 to Dec 2016 you will need SAT scores high enough to validate your good PSAT scores.
Ahh that’s a relief. Thanks for the answer guys.
