**PSAT Discussion Thread 2015**

@3scoutsmom , merging the accounts did the trick. You don’t need access code if college board can identify who you are. So once the accounts are merged, we were able to see the scores right away. Hope it helps!

Does anyone have an idea of how many juniors took the psat this year? If only 1.5 million took it than only 15,000 students would be in the top 1% and have a good shot at nmsf. However, it seems like much more juniors took it this year since almost everyone on cc is in the top 1-2%.

You do have to realize that almost everyone who comes here is already going to be pretty smart. The pool of people posting here is extremely biased.

State of Kansas, hoping National Merit score drops so I can qualify…

What do you guys think?

Here’s a site with estimated cut off scores-- http://collegeadmissions.testmasters.com/psat-scores-cut-national-merit-2016/

The question is WHY did college board NOT provide Percentile with Selection Index?
What are they hiding?
Apparent large discrepancies between PSAT score percentile and SI percentile?

It would have been much more helpful if they just listed Percentile with SI and not make this thread grow to 200+ pages trying to guesstimate the SI percentile and SI cutoff.
Current guestimate for 99% is 211 by the way.

@concreteolives Just because you are reading lots of high scores on the internet does not mean anything. First of all, don’t believe everything you read on the internet. Second, I pretty sure the number of juniors taking the PSAT is about the same this year as it was last year.
I’ll copy another post’s quote:
“How could Nixon have won? Nobody I know voted for him” - Pauline Kael

Someone talked to College Board about why the score delay, and the person from CB said that they had about 4.5 million PSAT takers this year compared to 3 million in a normal year (when there would have been a Saturday test that schools could make optional). Typically about half the test takers are 10th graders and half are 11th graders.

So, the 99th percentile may have expanded to include many more than the 16,000 that will be NMSF. In states with high cutoffs, the cutoff was never 99%ile exactly. It has always been higher and has been getting higher and higher. Think 99.5 to 99.75 percentile. The CB has never listed section or selection index percentiles to the tenth of a percent. They have in the past had charts that showed 99 and 99+ as separate percentile bands. They did not specifically define what 99+ meant in these charts. I am not certain whether that data is still released; it may have been discontinued. If they still do it, it would come out in April or later.

I think you should be fine for Kansas. You will most likely get commended and you have a strong chance for SF @jlutgen15

If I understand correctly, you are saying the national average cutoff will be 211? @payn4ward

The cutoff is not 99th percentile. The cutoff is the top 16,000 students weighted by individual state population.

I am not saying anything but based what we have on CC so far, 211 is current best estimate of national 99% for Selection Index.
It’s based on 99%tile across-board score so it probably is slightly higher than 99%.

1490 222 SI 99th %ile OR @payn4ward

Thank you @Studious99 and congratulations!

We need more data for folks who scored 97% or 96% in each subsection so that we can estimate SI 97% line.
We do not need anymore 99%ers
unless you scored below 97% in one of the sections :((

Still no scores here (SoCal). Just got off the phone with college board. They informed me that if there was any info entered by the student when the test was taken that was different from an existing online account, the scores would not be automatically placed in the account for security reasons (e.g., different SSN, email, etc.). My daughter had an existing account for several prior PSATs, APs, and SAT2 tests and is now a junior. They also informed me that all emails with codes (to add the score to her account) are being sent in batches from the 7th to the 9th with the last emails expected to be sent by 5PM EST on the 9th. All codes were also already sent to school counselors. Unfortunately, school is still on winter break here so we have no access to the counselor! Ughh.

Just an invitation to parents of Class of 2017. We’d love to have you stop by the parents thread and introduce yourselves if you aren’t already there:

Sometimes we even talk about things other than test scores.

My sophomore daughter in Ohio got a 1420 and SI of 215. Could she have gotten NMSF if she was a junior?
