**PSAT Discussion Thread 2015**

@class0f2017 I’m sure they have plenty of scholarships for high test scores as well! for me, the reason it’s such a big deal is because my #1 school offers $30k a year for NMF and I probably wouldn’t be able to afford it if I don’t get that. I got a 215 so if I’m literally 1 point under…ugh

@higheredrocks This document (http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/research/SAT-Mathematics-Percentile-Ranks-2013.pdf) is for the SAT rather than the PSAT, but provides some insight. As analyzed here (https://www.aei.org/publication/2013-sat-test-results-show-that-a-huge-math-gender-gap-persists-with-a-32-point-advantage-for-high-school-boys/), 9.6% of boys taking the math SAT exam in 2013 scored between 700-800 points compared to 5.2% the girls taking the test. This would definitely have a large impact on the gender ratio of those getting NMSF if the math section were half of the scoring.

NJ and DC are the two highest cutoffs at 220. They even beat NY and CA, who used to be higher when my older kids took the test. Sigh.

@foosondaughter , DD would definitely benefit if math were half the score :-). She didn’t miss any questions there.

Anybody know the curve for math section? How many can you miss for 760? I remember one post said missing 8 for 710. So I figure that you can miss 3 questions and still get 760? Writing seems be too steep and unforgiving though!

What’s sad is that some people on here get like close to full scores and they’re like “Is my score good enough for NMS cutoffs in…” Man it’s simple logic. Any stupid fool can figure it out. Use common sense for goodness sake.

@SincererLove My S missed one in Math and still scored 760, so you can miss at least one

Hi. I was wondering if anyone could help me. I need an opinion since I must send my scores today. Should I send my 25 ACT score or my 1710 SAT score?

A 25 ACT score is estimated to be a 1710 single SAT score or a 1680–1730 SAT score range?

@SincererLove you can only miss one and get a 36 in math. I missed 2 and dropped to a 750. I agree about writing though. Only missed one and it dropped me. Oh well 1500/1520 isn’t bad.

@university54321 it depends on where you are applying and whether or not you did writing.

@Waldoizhere I did do the writing for both SAT and ACT. I’m planning on applying to UGA.

How did you guys log into the account? My brother has a collegeboard account but it says that they don’t have any scores for him.

Do we know that all access codes will be sent out by noon on Saturday?

@SincererLove My D missed 5 in Math and got a 740. SI for Math was 37.

@SincererLove
My son missed 1 math question & got a 38 / 760. But I don’t know what 2 or 3 wrong in math equates to.

Can someone upload a digital copy of the practice test at least for those of us who didn’t get their scores back yet? That would be so helpful.

@Waldoizhere , Congrats! DD’s SI is 1 lower than you with same raw score. Total 4 missed questions… 3 in reading and 1 in writing.

Oh well didn’t make 99%. Is there ever a chance 98% can qualify for national merit?

@university54321 at this point flip a coin. Uga’s average act was 27-31 and average sat was 1810+, so you’re pretty close either way. Personally I’d go sat on this one. Aesthetically the score gap isn’t as large (100 sat points <2-3 act points imo).

@SincererLove at this point i want national merit just cause. Hope im a finalist!

@Waldoizhere Hi. So here are my exact scores, which should I send? Sorry for bothering you again. Someone said to send ACT if my writing was 25 or higher. If you can’t decide then I’ll just send SAT.

ACT score English 25; Math 24; Reading 25; Science 25; Writing 28

SAT Reading 590 Math 550 Writing 570
