**PSAT Discussion Thread 2015**

@GrantC46 not if you live in a high cutoff state.

@premiumSalt - I don’t think an SI of 216 is the lowest for 99%ile on SI’s.

And some states require higher than 99%ile for NMSFand others lower & predictions are for a flatter curve and a Test Prep company revised its projections yesterday – > http://collegeadmissions.testmasters.com/update-psat-scores-cut-national-merit-2016/

But it is still a lot of uncertainty - I think perhaps in April / May when Commended score cut off is known & the CB concordance tables are finalized we’ll be in a much better position to estimate some state cut-offs.

Is everyone on this site a genius I scored a 1460 and feel dumb…

Not a guarantee but a good indication. It would probably be a guarantee for lower cut-off states and less than that for the higher (highest) ones.

NM’s are typically in the top 1/2 of 1% of their state, just to throw another stat out there. Not sure how that correlates exactly to national percentiles.

@GrantC46

You don’t need a 99% on every subject to score in the low 99% for the SI. Hubby and I were looking at historical percentile info. yesterday and we could definitely come up with an SI that matched our state’s “almost but not quite at the low 99%” cut-off w/o having to go into the 99th on every subject. FWIW.

I agree with the the flawed logic and reality is based on past data…see the attached link http://www.collegeboard.com/prod_downloads/counselors/psat/understandingScores.pdf

The lowest 98th percentil across the board would get you there…so 216 is clearly too high and 207 maybe correct as reported by speedy…or 210 maybe right also

Dang, I think NC is a high cutoff state

Would a 210 make it in TX?

Since i got a 219 i’m either going to be like the lowest cutoff or 1 point below the cutoff… I’m sooooooo scared (CA)

College Board tweeted 2 hours ago that 4mm students now have access to their PSAT/NMSQT shoes - understand that some are freshman and sophomores, but it seems like junior year participation must be well over 1.5mm

@Chembiodad --More of our students are taking PSAT now than in previous years (even students in 9th grade). This year we have at least 2 kids score above 1400 at my son’s school–one scored 1470. (Alabama). My son scored a 211/1380 (98 percentile). His 1380 is in the 99 percentile though. We are so hopeful!

How would a 210 in TN do?

I think a 210 will make it in TN good luck

Go Bama Roll Tide

War Eagle!

Auburn?

Here is the data layout sent to counselors for this year: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/data-layout-psat-nmsqt-psat-10-esr.pdf

Page 10 shows the Selection Index column and Selection Index National Percentile column. There is no “National” and “User”, just “National”. I really feel the 207 number for 99th percentile posted by a student is the best “firm” number we have at this time (and the number could be lower as 207 was the last number shown to still be in the 99% range). If any other students in the 200-206 SI range can get their counselors to tell them their SI Percentile number we can adjust the 207 number lower.

The SI for 99% last year was 213 as someone posted earlier. It is at most 207 this year. So for students estimating whether they can make SF this year, subtracting 6 from last year’s SF cutoff seems the best advice for now.

For Texas, last year was 220. I’m guessing 214 this year…

How do you think a 210 would stand in TN? @Speedy2019 I have read anywhere from 198 even up to 214. Cutoff was 212 last year.

Tuscaloosa here I come … 35.25 act 1460 psat

@mkumar17, For now, I recommend subtracting 6 from year. So a 206 for TN.
