My school got 28 one year haha… we typically get 23-27. Just a public school in a nice area with lots of overachieving students.
Based on my observations, there are about 7 or 8 kids in my class who got 225+. For states that have previously been cut off at around 215, I don’t think they could cut it much higher than 215 or so to still get about the same number of NMSFs as we usually do.
@payn4ward, I think you would want to use the user percentiles, as the latest information has shown that the national percentiles are hypothetically based on every 11th grader, not just those that take the PSAT. I would presume that the missing scores are lower than your typical PSAT taker, no?
Where is anyone seeing these percentiles? Are they linked on your actual report? Or is this something I can see (none of mine tested this year)?
Could anyone reproduce that expected cutoff score on prepscholar & post a picture of a modified chart b/c I think the cutoff score on that chart is way too low?
Data point for MD… Our principal sent this note on Friday, “I am sure that our 10th and 11th grade students and families are anxiously awaiting their October PSAT testing scores. We have been in contact with College Board since the first week of December as the scores are usually distributed before the winter break. They are staggering the release of scores to the the Howard County high schools as they finish the scoring process. Unfortunately, we are lucky enough to be in the last group to receive scores this year. College Board has assured us that the scoring process will be completed as soon as possible and our scores will be distributed early next week. We will stay in contact with them until each of our test takers receives his/her scores.”
So, this says to me that they are likely adjusting the scoring/distributions on a per state or perhaps even a per county basis. Such a racket. CB has completely lost any credibility (what little they had to begin with) at this point, in my book. Why any college would consider a score from them in the next year a “valid” measure of a candidate’s capabilities, I cannot fathom.
@PAMom21 I agree. I’m updating %iles with ONLY USER percentiles.
The 3 subsection USER percentiles are only ON-LINE, and one has to click tiny “More Details” button far right on the screen to expand the content.
So I missed them the first time.
And then I noticed there are gazillions of “More Details” for each assessment CB designed (Analysis in History %ile, Analysis in Science %ile, Expression of Ideas %iles, Heart of Algebra %ile, Passport to Advanced Math %ile, etc etc you name it, %ile to boomerang back to family basement ) they are going crazy with %tiles.
Maybe they are too busy creating these hypothetical %tiles of gimmick categories to give us ACTUAL percentils or send scores to ALL test takers. :-&
Don’t forget the scary article that suggests they may be using March and May SAT data to fine tune their percentiles, though maybe that’s just for the actual SAT? This article is a good read, and worth a repost if all haven’t read it.
I used the three tables on the last page to convert my score breakdown into section scores for the old PSAT and compared that with last year’s cutoff for my state.
" They are staggering the release of scores to the the Howard County high schools as they finish the scoring process"
@ailinsh1 What??? How can that be possible - they are still SCORING the exam in your state/county? This makes no sense since CB doesn’t do state scoring - they do national scoring. NM Corporation is the one that worries about states and cutoffs (supposedly!). You should really send that email to the Washington Post person who wrote the article.
@suzyQ7 and @YoohooAddict - All I know is that is the email our principal sent out on Friday. I have a PTSA meeting with him on Thursday, so I will follow up then. The fact that score releases are being staggered is bizarre and very fishy to me…
