@LiamFromNj Congrats. My daughter also applied to UMaryland. Stinks they don’t tell anyone until end of Jan. She didn’t care since she got into PSU and it was her top choice.

When did you apply? Thanks.
The ones accepted by Smeal in the last day or so, please tell when did you apply?
Will changing to summer session only instead of summer optional if not admitted to fall, put me at the back of the line? If I were to call admissions and ask of that.
@jmats17 Not sure. But, from what I have read that if you put summer optional. They will consider you first for fall and if you don’t qualify…they then reconsider for summer. Others may know better.
Well here I sit in jail.
I’m in jail for Christmas. It a “rolling” crime I committed. Sort of like the rolling admission of PSU. It’s a LIE I tell you I’m innocent … Applied in early Sept and still have heard nothing. Even though those with lesser credentials have. Oh well … Back to my cell. Happy Holidays. Keep waiting!!!
@burbs20 CONGRATULATIONS! Awesome! You will LOVE Summer!
@jmats17 Zipbags is correct. Changing to just summer does nothing for you. If you applied fall with summer option they first look at you for fall, and only evaluate you for summer if you don’t get into fall. So applying summer straight only eliminates you from being looked at for fall. Make sure you put summer as an alternative, and choose a 2nd campus alternative as well. It doesn’t hurt you to put an alternative campus, but it keeps you from being denied outright if you don’t get into main campus. Of course, if you aren’t willing to do a branch campus then don’t worry about that.
@jlhpsu I applied way back in October. I just wanted to call and change straight to summer because I want to do summer anyway. My friends who applied straight to summer found out today while I’m still in review and our stats are very similar. Just worried and want to hear back already.
My son applied Nov. 30th.
Yay, my daughter was admitted for Nursing at University Park! She was thrilled and heard back very quickly, sent app in November 30 deadline, test scores arrive a bit later. Her great grandfather, grandfather and Aunt are all Penn State alumni. I guess we will be making a visit from CA to see the campus very soon!
when did she find out???
@jmats17 You likely won’t hear until after the holidays in January at this point anyway. And switching to summer won’t speed up your decision. Decisions are random. The fact that you haven’t heard and your friend has doesn’t mean anything. My D applied in early Sept. last year and didn’t hear until the last week of January and she got in for summer. It is stressful to wait, but it won’t make a difference in your wait times at this point. If you truly want to go only for summer then you can call and change it. Otherwise, you can wait and hear whether you got in for fall. If you do get in for fall, you then have the option…you can stay in fall or change to summer. It does not work the other way around. Since summer has less competitive criteria, if you get in for summer, you cannot just change to fall.

This morning @mcs123
@jlhpsu thank you! I called admissions too and they said today is the last day they released decisions until January. Guess I’ll just wait now no point in switching. With a 1710 SAT and 3.78 weighted gpa plus a ton of ECs like living in California by myself working and making apps at 16, do you think I have a chance? I’m in state.
@jmats17 Since the decision is based on 2/3 GPA and you are above both the middle 50% in both GPA and SAT, I think you have a good shot at at least summer. Time will tell! My D got in to summer last year with a 3.45 GPA and a 28 ACT (equivalent of about a 1950 SAT). If you do get in for summer, you will love it. My D said it was the best thing she ever did. Congrats to you regardless…sounds like you have been on your own and making it work for a while! That will only help you in college.
