Extra scholarship money…class registration before just about anyone else…quiet housing…like-minded students…study abroad opportunities…sounds pretty good to me.
@ssuptina If you get accepted for summer and someone else gets accepted for fall - you can room with them in the all, but obviously not in the summer. Summer students live in different dorms than they will for fall. You move in for summer, move out into a different dorm for fall. Thus, you can live with 2 different roommates. My D lived with one girl for summer in South halls, then moved to East for fall with a different roommate. Summer students also have a longer window to chose a fall roommate as they allow a few weeks for summer students to see if they meet anyone in summer session that they’d like to live with in the fall.
Hello, I made penn state Altoona and was wondering if it’s too late to call admissions and asking for reconsider for the summer option at UP.
@awal 1997 I have heard people from my school call and immediately be placed for summer DUS at University Park.
Does anybody know how many students Schreyer can take from a single high school? In my grade, a lot of good people are applying (maybe 6+ compared to the average 2-3) so I am a bit worried.
They only have 300 spots total – which isn’t that many – but if all the applicants from your school are people they really want…who knows? Maybe everyone will get lucky.
My school had 3 acceptances my year, and then I didn’t hear of any the year after (though maybe there was one and I just didn’t find out), including one guy whose dad both works for PSU and reads Schreyer apps. Admission is apparently getting pretty competitive. I didn’t know much when I applied. Would have spent longer on my essays if I had known how selective it is, haha.
@jlhpsu thank you so much! that’s so great to hear! thanks for clearing it up
Decisions are starting back up tomorrow. Good luck to everyone!!
FRIENDLY REMINDER THAT 4 WEEKS FROM TODAY WE WILL ALL HAVE A DECISION. STAY POSITIVE
@awal1997 What are your stats? And what did you originally apply for? In general, PSU won’t reconsider you until after everyone has been considered who applied priority. So, they may put you back in line for reconsideration, but you likely won’t hear until after January 31st. At least, that is what they said last year. You can call and ask to be reconsidered. They may have changed their process since last year. Many people do get reconsidered and get into UP for summer. But it really depends on your stats to begin with.
what is the likelihood that if I submitted my application before November 30 that I will hear before January 31. Is it possible I could receive a decision tomorrow?
@virginia987 You have a near 100% chance of hearing back by Jan 31st. Keep in mind that MyPennState updates every night at midnight. If accepted, after an update is posted to your MyPennState page, a follow up email and accaptance package (mail) should arrive within 3-5 days. And yes, it is possible to receive a decision tomorrow night.
My status on the portal has changed to : Your application has been updated. Please check back soon for a status update.
What does this mean?
Most people from my school were accepted at the beginning of November, but I still have not heard anything and my guidance counselor said I may have been deferred–but I thought PSU didn’t defer anyone. She said that they may have taken my application and put it aside to see if there’s still room for me once they accept/deny more people.
Has anyone ever heard of penn state doing this?
@tucitcennoc FYI If you do not get into Schreyer, there is a chance you can get in after you attend. My daughter was invited to join after her first semester because of her high grades. This may be an option for you. Good Luck!
@robot123 I believe that means you will have an answer very soon! Unless you called recently and requested a change to your major or campus.
@tmperini Other people hearing have nothing whatsoever to do with the status of your application. Decisions are random, other than for the very high stat kids who MAY hear sooner. Plenty of high stat kids hear at the end of January as well. They do not decide on applications in the order they come in, which can be frustrating, but the end result of that is that for everyone, regardless of stats, if they apply by November 30, they will hear by January 31st. Only a few more weeks to go! Last year my D heard on January 26 and still got in.
Robot123… My daughters said something similar just before it changed to accepted. It told us to log out and wait a few mins and log back in. I waited five minutes and an acceptance appeared. We got the message in the am around 6:30am.
Everyone always said PSU did rolling admissions, including guidance at high school. alumnae, and the people who represented PSU at college night at the high school. It’s also strongly hinted at in school materials. To me, rolling means the order in which they “roll in”, hence the term. We are reconciled to the fact that it’s selective rolling sort of admissions, but it seems to be deceptive to hint otherwise. And it’s not fair to students to make the extra effort to get materials in on the first day in order to have a better chance, because the reality is it doesn’t really matter. Unfair. I know, I know, life’s not fair…yada yada yada.
Have folks started hearing again? Any news this morning?
