Someone above noted the 11,000 applications received on 11/30 should explain why kids have been waiting months without a decision and why the 1/31 deadline was not met and asked, “Not sure how to anticipate 11,000 applications on 11/30?” Perhaps reviewing how the process runs from 9/1-11/30 might help? The “applications in a pile with random reviews method” did not work. Random review needs to get organized, either by order received or change the “priority deadline.” Citing the 11,000 apps received on 11/30 doesn’t justify why students who applied in Sept haven’t heard while students have asked for reconsideration have received those answers or explain how there are those who claim they applied after 11/30 and have already received an answer. Thankfully, my child has already been accepted, after waiting over 4 months, but my heart goes out to all those students who applied in Sept and Oct and still waiting.
I want to believe that the students who submitted early September and who have not recieved any information as of today still have a good chance of getting accepted. I keep saying to my son that " hey you didn’t get a denied letter so that must mean something "
@psumomihope I remember reading of people getting accepted in April of last year…granted they applied after the priority date. But, it shows they still had openings. More importantly. If the admissions department tweeted they were behind. I am sure they are still going through a lot of apps. Keep the faith.
@hoosier44 that was me that noted the 11,000 applications. I completely agree with you that the process needs to be evaluated and changed. Reconsiderations should not hear before first decisions…and according to what we were told last year, should not have happened.
@mmsharp - I initially applied for summer with a major for Psych, and Altoona as my alternative campus. So I guess I’d just have to ask to change to undecided and be reevaluated? I still have to wait to hear back anyways! Thanks for the advice!
Well we broke down and my son called and asked a few questions mainly when is the new deadline for getting our application answer and they said they are a few weeks behind so we are looking at mid Feb maybe later. Also they update there system at 8am every morning once a day. Also my son did summer premed at main , 2nd choice Erie , he asked if he changed to DUS would it matter on his status, she said No but he can ask for reconsideration after.
@PSUMOMIHOPE I called admissions earlier today and they told me that if I did not have a decision by Thursday, then I should call them back.
I just tried to call admissions and I got a busy signal.
I finally got through and the lady said that they should have most of the decisions if you applied by Nov 30 out by the end of the week
Wow, well that is better news than what we got , thanks @shoelover18 for being proactive. Fingers crossed , good luck to all

Forgot to post last week that my son found out he got ACCEPTED on January 27th. The waiting was torture but it was worth it. He was accepted for Fall 2016 University Park - his major is Kinesiology (Health & Human Development). I am a proud alum (1989). We are super excited for him and are going up in March for the Accepted Student Information Sessions.
His GPA was 3.3 and he had a 29 ACT score. We live in Maryland so he was considered out of state. He attends private school currently.
Does anyone know when scholarship info is sent out and if it is through mail, email, mypennstate etc.?
My daughter received a Provost’s scholarship and she was notified by regular mail.
Congrats! How long after she was accepted did she get the letter?
@blprof how much is the provost’s?
