PSU Class of 2020 Decision Thread

…admitted as freshmen each year, so about 1200 total, plus students at campuses other than UP and people who enter during their time at PSU. Requirements include a whopping 3.7 GPA at the time of application: https://www.shc.psu.edu/admissions/apply/gateway.cfm

Total enrollment of about 1800, or 5% of PSU students.

Accepted. Not sure when, however. Signed onto myPennState account and saw my acceptance. Hoping to attend in the fall!

My daughter found out about an hour ago that she was accepted to the main campus as DUS! She applied either on November 30th or slightly after and has been checking daily for weeks. She auditioned for the PSU MT program this weekend and didn’t make it. She thinks her hold on her acceptance to the school relied on what happened at her audition. So excited she may be going to Penn State!!!

Can freshman bring a car to campus For summer?

@ian123 no. Students can bring a car and park on campus when they have enough credits to be considered a sophomore. For my daughter, because of dual enroll in HS, that happened spring of freshman year. But for most it’s later.

Can I bring a car?

First-year students are allowed to bring automobiles for the summer. You should register the car as soon as possible after your arrival, but certainly by the second day of classes. The Parking Office in the basement of Eisenhower Parking Garage (behind Eisenhower Auditorium) will need a valid registration and driver’s license. See the Parking Office web page for more information at http://www.transportation.psu.edu, or call 814.863.7021.

@jlhpsu and @bodangles what’s the difference between regular class and honors class???
In my high school we don’t have AP or Honors cox we follow CBSE…

Found out today!

ACCEPTED TO THE COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS

Stats:
SAT: N/A
SAT IIs: N/A
ACT: 27
GPA: 3.8
Rank: Doesn’t rank

Subjective:
Essays: Very, very good
Teacher Recs: Very good
Counselor Rec: Very good
Hook (if any): IB Student, wrote novel

Location/Person:
State or Country: NY
School Type: IB/International (private)
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female

Other Factors: I take 7 IB courses so I’m taking the most challenging courseload at my high school out of all students - probably doing me some favors.

@heyitsme11 The difference between honors and regular can be one or more of the following: more work, more theory (less application), more topics to learn, more difficult tests, a different curve, a faster pace.

I’ve taken three honors math classes, two English, and one criminology. Math is hit or miss – Calc 1 was pretty awful, Calc 2 was just a lot of work, and DiffEq was not bad.

@heyitsme11 Another couple of differences between honors and regular - smaller class sizes. As for test difficulty, it sort of depends - yes, tests are more difficult because there is more material and it is cover much more, but, because class sizes are much smaller, tests tend to be less multiple choice and more free answer. This allows for partial credit and allows for better opportunities to show what you know.

Was accepted to DUS. I hear financial aid packages at Penn State are pretty bad, even if there is a low EFC, so I am not sure if I will attend; however, I certainly do hope I can!

@bodangles and @Dreadpirit any idea if honors and regular have different job opportunities…
What if I take regular class and get a good gpa…
