PSU Class of 2020 Decision Thread

My S applied to the E and FISE house. I presume one of them is in the West hall

Accepted!

ACT 33, GPA 3.95
Good luck to you all!!

@jlhpsu or anyone that accepted already… while I was going though the process I paid the deposit then got a screen that said you are 2 steps away…complete parent info and emergency contact but if never brought me to that… just went right to screen w/ application status which is now Welcome to PS family. Thank you for accepting your offer…Do you know where I would complete the parent and emergency contact and is there anything else I need to do??? Do we need to put in for specific housing? Thank you!

@Thewaiting4ever Log into eliving (eliving.psu.edu). On the left side you can update preferences, update housing preference etc…

@jlhpsu thanks…did that…but got to the end and it indicated he needed to enter his name in the box below but no box? did you get that? I will call tomorrow to verify.

My S has been accepted at DUS at UP, but he really wanted to go to smeal - just did not want to take a chance and get rejected. Now can he apply to smeal? Or after freshmen year is it easy to transfer over to smeal?. Please advice

@Thewaiting4ever I don’t remember. My daughter is actually finishing up her freshman year at UP. I’m an alumni as is my husband…I was a basket case during admissions last year and I got a lot of support from this site - so I stay here now to answer questions and help where I can. But that, I don’t remember from last year! sorry!

@robot123 Your son can complete all of his entry-to-major requirements from DUS – he just needs to follow his recommended academic schedule. Various online materials say that undecided students can “enter a college or major when they are qualified and ready to do so” (not many other details that I could find). The advisors might say that most people are qualified and ready during their 4th semester, aka when they’d be entering their major anyway.

Entry to major doesn’t happen until second year - I believe it is early spring, not 100% sure.

Does PSU offer single dorms for freshman?

@lolies123 PSU offers single dorm rooms…
But they cost around $4500…
U could also stay in suites they also cost around the same…

A link to accurate prices for housing…keep in mind that housing cost is increased almost every August when the Trustees meet. Also, there are a very limited number of singles, but chances of getting selected for one (remember, you are indicating a preference, not guaranteed a thing) as a freshman are very slim.

University Park Undergraduate Residence Halls Housing Rates
Room Rate Standard Occupancy
Double, traditional
Double, renovated
Small Double, traditional
Triple, traditional
Single, traditional
Supplemental
Supplemental w/bath… Do they all lie in the same hall???
Btw what is the difference between Double traditional, double renovated, and double small??
Which one do u guys prefer…
Please give ur opinion. Could someone send me photos or someone that lives thr or visited help me out please

@heyitsme11 You should go to the PSU housing page. It is VERY informative. It has pictures of the rooms, layouts (rooms and building floors) and I think even 360 pictures of the rooms. As a freshmen unless you qualify for SLO (special living option) most kids are in East which has not been renovated (although will be starting this fall). It is my understanding that the only renovated traditional dorm is North, but I could be wrong.

I’d recommend anywhere BUT East halls, and I’d pick an slo.
Non renovated rooms have furniture bolted to the floor.
Read through the pages though

Here is a great site that grades things at colleges… https://colleges.niche.com/penn-state/
