So I applied December 25th. My transcript was sent end of October/beginning of November and my SAT/ACT were sent on December 28th. Although all my stuff was submitted before December 31st, I think my application status changed to “credentials received” within the first week of January. The website says anyone with complete credentials by December 31st will know by February 28th and anyone with complete credentials by January 31st will know by March 31st. Do you think I will know by February 28th or March 31st? I’m so anxious!
@pros6640 when did you apply? If by Nov 30th then you will still have a decision by Friday.
defndr11, Bio and premed are in ECoS. Admission standards are the same.
I totally get the feeling of all four years at one campus. My D was told that she could be reevaluated and do the 2+2 program. At first we hated that idea. But, she could have a car on campus, and its close enough to main that if she really wanted to she could join her sister at main every weekend. However, that eliminates one of her key draws…Blue Band…for st least two years. Bit, she’s considering it. We also have a visit to WVU (loved it when we toured with our older D) in the next couple weeks. I think she will love it, and I will be pleased with whatever she chooses. As a PSU family, its hard to imagine e her not being there with that unmatchable student section. But on the other hand, it would also be cool for hee to have an experience totally her own. And, since WVU is not Big 10, we could cheer for both schools without conflict!! Hahaha. And WVU also has a fantastic band and music program.
@jlhpsu I still only log on here cheering for you and hoping to see good news.
@Tessie22 We got the Millennium scholarship email, then got the admissions denial after.
@PSUGradMom thanks! I have been blessed to have met many like minded people on CC and it has been vital to my sanity during this process! If all of your kids are as great as all of you are, then Penn State class of 2019 will be a great one!
I haven’t seen any updates today and I’m not sure if they update on Sundays…so maybe Monday?
Best wished to your D! I am sure she will find her place. I’ve never been to WVU but I know they are intense fans like Penn State! And you are right about Altoona…super close to Main campus and the kids are able to go to games easily as the bus goes between campuses…and as you mentioned, you can have a car at Altoona. All things I have in the back of my mind if my D is deferred there!
Where did that 67,000 number come from, a kid in the Admissions Office? I’m not buying that, not yet anyway. Maybe that kid was referring to all the Penn State campuses combined, but I’m having a hard time believing UP went from 50,299 applications in 2014-15 to 67,000 for 2015-16 when students are still in the midst of applying.
Just to compare with previous years, in 2013-14 (the year following the Sandusky scandal and the year the Provost Scholarship was rolled out as an incentive to some students), there were 42,570 applications to UP, down from 47,552 the previous year.
One thing that hasn’t seemed to change in recent years: More men than women apply, but more women are accepted. (It looks like the yield on accepted men is better though, so that may explain why they accept fewer.)
We haven’t even gotten to the “Can I afford this?” discussion, which will be coming after people get their financial aid awards later in the spring. I hope everybody ran the net price calculator before they applied!
WVU is a great school, @PSUGradMom. I know Penn State is a special place with great school spirit, but the truth is, a lot of flagships have those things. My older son chose Bama over PSU and, believe me, they have a very good time in their student section too.
@jlhpsu If they both end up at Altoona, we will have to link them up. Hahaha.
The hardest part on here is seeing students with much lower stats getting acceptances. But, it is what it is, I suppose.
@LucieTheLakie I was told 67,000 by the admissions counselor that answered the phone the other day. She sounded like an older woman, not a student…but that doesn’t mean she had the right info. I also was surprised. She was saying it in the context that applications are way up this year (ie 67,000) and that’s why they are running late. I believe that all campuses would be higher than that, but it does seem suspect that Main campus had THAT big of a jump.
We ran the net price calculator and won’t qualify for one cent, so we are prepared for the sticker shock!
@PSUGradMom absolutely, lol!
@LucieTheLakie I really did love the WVU tour we had with the oldest D. If the youngest D that was just denied at PSU main decides to go there, I would still be very happy for her. (And confident she would find she could love it just as much and STILL manage to stay a PSU fan, also. Hahaha) Maybe that would be the best of both worlds - Having TWO great non-competing schools to cheer for!
@LucieTheLakie Oh, and Roll Tide!! Haha
@jlhpsu If you get not so good news (and I hope that isn’t the case), WVU would be worth a peek if she’s looking for the same type of campus vibe. I actually loved their student union and what it had to offer more than the HUB at main. And the campus is beautiful.
Accepted! Smeal College of Business.

@PSUGradMom I agree with you about WVU. My D just declined her acceptance to PSU UP for WVU. She liked it since we toured with her older sister. I think the personalized attention sealed the deal for her (the scholarships were great, too). Her friends made a big deal about the party school reputation, but since my other D is a junior at PSU and her brothers graduated from two other colleges, she understands that every school can be a party school. It is what you want it to be
Congratulations for all of the acceptances and good luck to those of you still waiting!
A digression as you await decisions and we await the 4 to 6 inches of snow (plus the endless/gleeful meteorologists’ revisions):

Speaking of which, an interesting article outlining a different tenor regarding tuition at Penn State. I believe it bodes well for future students http://news.psu.edu/story/320398/2014/07/11/administration/barron-outlines-priority-student-access-affordability-report
To those awaiting decisions – HANG IN THERE!
To those forging different paths – CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES! All will be well (from a diverse-diploma family)
To new Penn Staters – WELCOME! WE ARE!
$6 million - $7.2 million on applications!
Does Penn State send out mails to international students regarding the admission decisions?
NavalCadet2019, Congratulations!! Welcome to Penn State. Consider joining the Cross Country Club – really good group, and they are also involved in THON.
My status changed from
“Your application is complete and we are reviewing your credentials. You should expect an admission decision in four to six weeks. Check back here for updates.”
Status updated: 12/17/2014
to the same status but this time the status update was 1/6/2015
Does this mean i wont be getting a decision by the 31st even though i applied by the priority deadline
Also what does a date change signify? Does it usually mean rejection?
