Has anyone who got deferred to a satellite campus called in and gotten in for summer session? if so how long does that take? I got deferred from UP to Altoona and I want to be reconsidered for summer session.
@geek97 short answer…no it does not mean a rejection. It just means that they have had a lot of applications this year and maybe they thought they could get your application processed by mid January and instead you will be closer to the end of the month. If you applied and had all of your materials in by November 30, you SHOULD be getting a decision by January 31st. If you went over by even a day, it could have pushed you out to the next wave. You could call tomorrow and ask, but you aren’t rejected until you see a rejection! No status update is not a rejection (as told to me by the admissions counselor). I’ve seen others get this kind of weird status and they called and it was a glitch and they were told they will receive a decision by January 31st. Good luck!
@dhanvit Based on what they told me last week, they will not re-evaluate for DUS and/or summer until all priority applicants have a decision. So if you requested a re-evaluation, you are probably waiting because they haven’t notified all of the priority applicants for summer. You would get put “in line” behind them if they are willing to re-evaluate. I’ve seen at least one post from someone who was told straight away that they wouldn’t re-evaluate their application (confusing because they were a high quality applicant on paper).
Sorry to hear that. I called twice and was transferred to Engineering dept to talk about scholarship. I was told that the email was selective and not to worry about being accepted as admissions was just behind. it would be nice to hear the truth. Since my D status has not changed we are assuming that she will be denied as well. However, she will be fine as she has other acceptances.
I applied September 1. I’m starting to not want to go because I haven’t heard yet. I’m already assuming I won’t hear until Friday. This waiting is really turning me off to the school. I’ve had the same status since my transcript was received in October.
If you look at last year’s threads (as well as other years), there are many, many people who get acceptances at the 11th hour (January 31st!). Not hearing yet does NOT equal a denial…especially since people apply and get accepted far into February and March! Hang in there everyone…we are in the home stretch and regardless…it’s always better to know than to not know!
@Navalcadet Wonderful new on your acceptance to SMEAL! Did you get the acceptance notice this weekend? Happy for you!
@Tessie22 Can she be admitted not in UP but into a branch with Eng and still be eligible for the scholarship? I hope not all scholarships are reserved for UP students. I would not give up hope.
I would be doing the young sophomores and juniors a disservice by not posting my stats. I remember spending late nights on CC comparing my stats to all those accepted and I remember how helpful it was. So anyway…
Major: Chemical Engineering
Stats:
SAT: 1700 - 590 Math 570 CR 540 W
ACT: 25 (26 Math 25 Eng)
SAT IIs: None
GPA: 3.4 UW 3.97 Weighted (Explained on App the rigor of my school’s GPA point system.) ex. 94 = 3.75
Rank: 17/112
Other stats: President of NHS, President of Fellowship Christian Athletes, Worked fast food for 2 Years
Subjective:
Essays: Essay Highlighted the unusual goal of applying to a U like PSU from such a small town. (111 people)
Teacher Recs: None
Counselor Rec: None
Hook (if any): Small town + URM (Will have 5 DE classes taken at local CC by HS graduation)
Location/Person: North Carolina
State or Country: US
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: URM
Gender: Male
Other Factors: Submitted my application first day it was open (received admittance Jan 24th) Applied to Summer Session for University Park.
Other Acceptance: Univ of Iowa (Full OOS Tuition waiver) , Florida State University , Penn State University
Rejected: None
Tips: Apply Early, Have your essay ready before apps open, apply for summer. Admission is 3/4 GPA so make sure you pay attention to any reasons why your GPA should be higher. I had my counselor recalculate my UW GPA using the official College board website and it went from a 3.4 to a 3.7.
check out my threads for my story
We are OOS so she only applied to main campus. We just should have been told the truth that receiving the email did not assume acceptance to the school. We were given 24 hours to complete the scholarship application.
My son submitted his academic transcript request to his high school for Penn State Aug 15th, SAT scores were sent from the College Board Nov 25th and Dec 23rd, and applications to Penn State UP and Schreyer were submitted online before Nov 30th. Unfortunately, my son assumed that because he had submitted all materials online, that it would not be necessary to double-check that his packet was complete.
He’s shown incredible internal fortitude not checking the website and had been committed to not checking the website until the morning of the Jan 31 priority notification date. I shared with him that I had been following this thread and anticipated that, as an Eberly College of Science applicant he may have already been notified. To appease his Dad, he checked the site. We were both mortified to see that his application was considered incomplete, that Penn State was not showing receipt of his transcripts for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade.
Do any of you have insight into the following:
Other instances in which a transcript was submitted three months before other materials and not paired with a student’s application?
Instances in which Penn State found misplaced/misfiled application materials that had been sent on time and incorporated them into a student’s application portfolio, particularly when advised that they had been sent before the application itself?
Instances in which Penn State found misfiled application materials, recognized that they had been sent on time, and provided a timely priority admissions decision for the applicant?
Also, if Penn State cannot/does not locate my son’s transcript, is there time for him to submit another transcript request with his high school for Penn State. I assume that if this turns out to be the case, he will not be included in the priority pool and his chance of admission will decrease.
My son’s stats:
OOS
Eberly
Physics
SAT: CR+M+W 2010 (CR: 620; M 720; W 670)
GPA: 3.45 (unweighted); 3.73 (weighted)
Rank: Top Quintile
Eagle Scout; History Essay Contest State Finalist; academic summer programs participant (Johns Hopkins CTY and The Ohio State SLIYS), significant community service
30 semesters of Honors courses, 5 semesters of AP courses
Public School
Caucasian
Male
Acceptances: Florida State, Hope College, Indiana University, Michigan Tech, Ohio State
Waiting for decisions from Miami U, Penn State, SUNY Geneseo, UF, UM College Park, UNC Chapel Hill, UW Madison, and 3 others
Follow-up will take place tomorrow with Penn State Admissions. Any advice to maximize potential for a positive outcome?
Thanks, in advance, for any insights or advice…
@PhD411 Hello,
Sorry to hear about you and your son’s circumstances. It seems as though your son has great stats. I personally have not heard of any circumstances where transcripts have been misplaced like what you described. However, while I cannot provide much information on the transcript situation, I would urge you not to lose hope quite yet.
Misplacement of your transcript may have occurred because you sent it before they even opened up the application for admission on September 1st. They may have cleared their databases to start accepting applications September 1st, onward. Also, since you sent the transcripts before September 1st and before you completed the online application, you didnt have access to the counselor request form. I know that the counselor request form helps assure that transcripts get in the right place.
Because your application was, technically, incomplete due to the transcript misplacement, from personal experience talking to admissions, I am afraid you did not meet the priority deadline of November 30th (based on what you are saying happened). Because of not reaching the priority deadline, you may not get your decision by January 31st.
SOME HOPE:
In my eyes (even though I am not admissions), I think your son’s stats are very good. His extracurriculars and awards are stellar! That being said, I think that if you send the counselor request form with the transcript, in the same envelope, to Penn State, your son has a good chance to get in after the January 31st priority notification date.
As said in previous posts on this thread, there were many people who got accepted well into Febuary and March!
I really do hope you can get everything to work out! Your son really does seem stellar in his stats! DO NOT LOSE HOPE!! (Again I am not admissions, so please take everything I am saying with a grain of salt! Admissions has been pretty random this year as well!) Best of luck!
@mick80 Thank you! Yes, I received my decision last Tuesday!

@PhD411 My son’s transcripts did not show up for more than 3 weeks after they were sent. I found out that there was at least one day in early Oct that they had a screw-up with Naviance and didn’t get any that were sent on that day. By the time I called, they had found maybe 1/2 of them. They finally found ours with the guidance secretary’s code for submission. I’m telling you this because there may very well have been mess-ups on other days. I have to run, sorry.
If i got the coming days status on Friday is there a chance they will release my decision today
@PhD411 You say he sent a request to his HS for his transcript to be sent to PSU. Did the HS ever send them… if so they should have a record. Sadly it is not done electronically…they very well may be lost. If you have a guidance counselor or school administrator able to prove that they were sent that might help….if PSU misplaced them…not if they were never received. Good Luck! I would hope if they are found in the wrong pile somewhere, but were received months ago they would consider him this coming week and make a decision by 1/31
@PhD411 our guidance office did send them electronically through Naviance/Parchment. They had a confirmation number to search for. Some are mailed on paper. Your guidance office should have a record of the date they were sent. I do agree that the problem might have been that they arrived before September 1. Good luck! Hopefully they will be understanding & helpful.
How were they sent electronically I read on PSU’s website, and was told by my daughter’s school they do not accept them electronically. Could it be because I am OOS?
Yes.
