Purchase

Just wanted to put this out there. If you guys are wondering if SUNY Purchase is a good place to be. THREE Second Years are about to have amazing summers!

2 were accepted into BADA - British American Academy - Oxford Summer Program
1 was accepted into the Chautauqua Theatre Company - Conservatroy Company

If you don’t know what Chautauqua is: “Now in it’s 27th season, the Chautauqua Theater Company is the resident professional theater and Conservatory of the Chautauqua Institution. Internationally known actors, directors, designers and writers join 18 emerging artists drawn from the nation’s top training programs to form a unique company that produces a vibrant summer of work in the historic Bratton Theater. Under the artistic direction of Vivienne Benesch & Ethan McSweeny” [Chautauqua Theater Company - HOME](http://theater.ciweb.org/)

BADA: The four-week Midsummer in Oxford (MIO) program is designed for serious acting students from the top acting programs and concentrates on classical acting with an emphasis on Shakespeare. Students work and live alongside the faculty in Balliol College, Oxford, located about an hour from both Stratford-upon-Avon and London. The faculty consists of both British and American leading theatre practitioners and is run in association with Yale School of Drama.

BOTH PROGRAMS are known for only taking graduate MFA students from Yale, Juilliard, A.C.T and NYU Grad. THREE 2nd Year BFA Purchase student were ask to join these programs /companies. I don’t know about you but, that’s a huge deal.

The program is doing great things. They are obviously getting what they need in terms of training. This is an exciting period for this program. The faculty is working really hard to make this program what it was in the 80’s and 90’s.

Complexlife,

Congrats to your friends! They are in for such a treat. Chatauqua is a magical place and to spend a summer there in the conservatory is a fabulous opportunity. They will not only get the opportunity to perform in the Shakespearean production, but at least one other play, in addition to experiencing wonderful classes. What a fun place to spend the summer in that intellectual atmosphere, too! It is a terrific accomplishment for any young actor! We are headed down there again this year so I look forward to seeing them!

Cool!

I was thinking that chrissyblu said that it is not unusual for UCLA theatre undergrads to attend the BADA summer program, but I could be wrong.

On the Chatauqua website, it says there are internships that provide housing and a small stipend. Is that what the Purchase students are doing, complexlife?

My son called me with the good news.

He is going to be apart of the Conservatory Company under the direction of Vivienne Benesch & Ethan McSweeny. “The Chautauqua Theater Company has a unique role to play in the American Theater – it offers our loyal and discerning audience the best in classical, contemporary, and new plays and features a company made up of internationally acclaimed professional actors, directors, designers, playwrights and faculty, joined by 14 of the finest emerging actors in the country from the top acting programs in the nation.”
