I applied to Purdue in RD, and please help me by letting me know whether I am competitive

I live in India, but I am a USA citizen, and I’m applying for cs and COMPE as an alternate major. My family’s income is high

I got a 1460 superscore in sat (780 maths and 680 English)

I have a mid-borderline strong ECS (I can’t do ECS because of my JEE Advanced prep, most of my ECS are STEM-oriented)

ECS: I created an AQI analysis project using real Python variables and uploaded it on git hub, created an academic resource of chemical equilibrium, tutored kids on advanced math and physics, won 2nd prize in a school-level AI championship, and won a chess tournament, learning french as part of my curriculum and I have certifications in machine learning and python variables from hackerrank and kaggle and i also have a cricket certificate from my academy.

I studied in ipe background in ts state syllabus, and I got 452/470 in 11th grade ECS

I got 91% in cbse board in 10th and 93% in 9th

My essay is good enough (at least it won’t be a reason to reject me i hope so)

I have loc’s from my counsellor, physics, and maths teacher

i dont know my gpa because I study in india and here the gpa system is different, and the curriculum is very rigorous to make sure u have no time for doing external extracurriculars like research. Also i have a good knowledge of coding an python.

I asked ChatGPT to convert my marks in indian system to gpa in the USA system it gave an unweighted GPA of approximately 3.9/4 or even 4/4

I request u all to help me with ur estimates: please let me know if i can make it

Purdue fills most of their class in EA. It’s a much tougher road for RD applicants as there are fewer slots left, especially for competitive majors.

Hopefully you will have a decision soon!

dosent purdue like to admit only a portion of students from EA, and then again a portion of students from RD. I mean atleast wont 35% of the students come from RD???

No, not for your intended major:

Nov. 1

  • Early Action application deadline
  • Merit scholarship consideration and John Martinson Honors College deadline
  • Priority application deadline for these competitive majors:
    • Engineering in West Lafayette: engineering (first-year)
    • Engineering in Indianapolis: biomedical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering and motorsports engineering
    • Computer science
    • Flight (professional flight technology)
    • Nursing
    • Veterinary nursing

Priority application deadline means that we will continue accepting applications after Nov. 1 only if space allows. If you’re applying for one of these programs after Nov. 1, first check for program availability on our Closed Programs page.

i mean i already applied and they got my application and i applied for fall 26 in WL

it hurts to hear i dont have a chance. Purdue was like my dream school

No major is listed as closed for incoming students yet for the Fall so you still have a chance, but it’s slim.

It’s also a clue that they are at or near capacity for your major (and alternate) as they are already closed to transfers for next year. (See the link to the closed programs in my first reply to you.)

makes sense now. So is there no chance for me

Hey, I applied for an indented major in Computer Engineering after FYE. I see that it is not closed for fall 2026 for both freshman and transfers. Is that a good thing?

This is my profile. Do you think I have a shot either way?

international btw
Academics: IB Diploma w/ 4 HLs (Math AA, Physics, CS, Econ). UW GPA ~3.5. Grade 11 dip (~30/42) due to family circumstances. School non-ranking; Texas A&M placed in 1st quartile. 48/56 Grade 10 IB MYP exams.

SAT: 1380 (730m, 650 verbal)

Main ECs: founded a stock prediction platform (ARIMA/LSTM + 1,000+ users in 8 countries), research internships at a US T100 university’s labs for (trade-timing ML/backtesting) and (sports analytics), captain of Coding Club, student council, NYUTandon ML outreach, AI/computer vision internship, STEM blogging (11k readers), volunteer teaching, and MUN/debate leadership.

i would say u have very good ecs, but scat score is slightly off an being and international and applying in rd would further make it slim. Even i applied to compE as an alternate major. But never lose hope, these people are unpredictable, I hope we both get in.

I’m sorry, I was traveling and didn’t see your message.

Did you apply in EA and get deferred, or applied in RD? If the later, chances are slim. If you were deferred I’d say there were better odds.

Unfortunately ECs are not considered as heavily as GPA and your SAT score is lower for your intended major.

Good luck to you.

Replied in the EA thread, but posting here too. DD was just accepted for FYE (intent is MechE) after being deferrred!

OOS
3.97 UW/4.89W
1390 SAT/33 ACT
14 APs (including Calc B/C)/ everything else honors level
Seal of Biliteracy (Spanish)
4 years Club & varsity volleyball (captain each year)
Plus a few other random ECs but nothing stand-out

I thought her essays and LOCI were pretty good, but one never really knows.

She was also accepted to UMD (in-state), Penn State (with CoE “recruitment” merit, waiting to hear from Honors College); rejected from UVA (she wasn’t that interested, so NBD).
She also applied to MIT as an enormous reach. She knows the odds, but still wanted to put herself out there, which was fine with us.

It’s really between Penn State and Purdue. I could see her either place; it will be a tough decision, but we’re so proud that she gets to make it.

Good luck to everyone!

Hi,

Daughter applied EA and was deferred. Portal shows as awaiting decision and haven’t heard back. Intended major is chemE, OOS. Is there still hope ?

We are also defered from EA. But our portal still shows decided with view your decision never changed after EA. I looked previous years records, it seems that when portal change to awaiting decision for EA defer, it normally means the result is available soon. Anyway, the final result should be available by this Friday.

Just got waitlist after deferred from EA. For CS major, will the chance be very low?

This is last year’s common data set information about the wait list. Unfortunately if this cycle is like the last, the odds aren’t great. I’m sorry!
