Semantics only really - however my understanding is all engineering admits are FYE (First Year Engineering). There is no guarantee as to which major within Engineering they will be admitted to after they finished first / second semester freshman engineering requirements. During second semester they fill out a form/application with first and second choice majors - your student is not guaranteed a specific major in engineering starting off.

This is how many of the engineering schools admit freshman - so itā€™s not like Purdue is an exception here.

Yes, all engineering students start out in FYE and then transition to major in their second semester. Itā€™s a very straight forward process. 3.2 engineering index (GPA for STEM classes) typically guarantees your first choice major.

Purdue says that over the past 5 years, 94% of students that meet the minimum GPA requirements get their first choice major.

You can also transition later if you are on the cusp or choose a major with a lower cut off.

Have no idea. Could be a coding issue with the site, could be location specific, could mean deferral. Thankfully, all will be answered shortly.
