Purdue Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

Everything covered is just name/contact info

I see the same thing. It can’t mean anything, though, right? I mean, we are technically c/o 2030, plus I applied to the College of Science.

I’m just cautiously optimistic because it has the correct year, meaning somehow our name is in the system. Whether or not that means we’re admitted, who knows, especially seeing as that’s not the college my primary or alternate major is.

*Elaboration on ā€œcorrect yearā€. Someone posted earlier that they could access the page via their daughter’s account (who was accepted in a past year) and it said ā€œ2024 undergraduateā€

Just out of curiosity why did you apply Professional flight. I’m an airline pilot and was just discussing this with co-workers. What degree do you end up with after 4 years and does it include flight training costs?

How is Proflight different than getting a degree in, say engineering and doing flight training on the side.

It’s strange how we can access the CS and Business school sessions but not the engineering session.

Mainly the industry connections and the R-ATP. My dad is a BGSU flight alum (now Captain at a major LCC) which is my #2. The main selling point for Purdue is the career fairs where I can get my foot in the door with airline recruiters prior to actually applying. You end up with a bachelor’s in ā€œprofessional flightā€ and eligibility for the R-ATP, but in this hiring industry I HIGHLY doubt I’ll be hired at 1000 hours exactly.

*Also I plan on getting my A&P at Purdue. You never know what’ll happen in aviation and I could lose my first class for no fault of my own. As long as you have a degree and an A&P, airlines don’t care what the degree is in for maintenance.

**Proflight is also 141 as opposed to 61. If I were to do, say, AET and fly part 61 on the side, I lose the structured curriculum part. I know I’d manage without, it’s just nice to have credit hours dedicated to flight instead of trying to juggle two things at once

Do you have a link to the CS and business school sessions?

Thanks. Was asked to discuss with some HS students what path to take. As you said, never know what can happen in the industry. Your dad, I’m sure, has taught you this.

Yeah he was stuck in the right seat at Pinnacle for 7 years. As for the path people ā€œshouldā€ take (the smart one), it’s whoever is in state, paying you the most, and offering you a degree you can use outside of aviation. Or get the military to pay for it.

I know that I’m not choosing the short-term financially wise option, but if Purdue lands me a job faster than another school due to the connections, the cost was worth it. As is the A&P as a backup provided I can convince the school to let me in the lab classes (required for FAA certification) without double majoring.

Anyone interested in giving a simplified explanation of the astrology for this year?

I was at a regional for 8 years pre and post 9/11 which was a set back. I wish I did military but vision kept me out. Good luck. I’m pulling for all the young pilots a quick entry to the majors.

  1. If you have 2 cancel buttons we think that means accepted/deferred. If you have no cancel buttons that could mean a rejection
  2. If you can access the various links scattered in chat (e.g. no ā€œaccess deniedā€) while logged into your Purdue account, we think that’s a good sign

Apart from that, there hasn’t been much.

Honestly with the new regional contracts, I’d be happy there for a while. I’m aware the early 2000s were a complete different story, but now you’ve got some people content with being at a regional for life. As long as I can get ANY job where I can build time soon, I’ll be happy

I also am fortunate to have my Dad already in the industry as a connection, but I don’t want to rely on him for everything.

it says only admitted students allowed for the engineering one, is that bad sign

Until the decisions come out there’s not a clue to know. It could be location, sketchy programming, the specific major you applied for, whatever. I’d just treat it like all the other pages for admitted students that we can’t access right now

Couple things I learned as a 20 something at a regional.

  1. Treat it like college. You are there temporarily to gain PIC not to make a career out of it. Everyday you get comfortable is a day you lose making real money and gaining seniority at a major airline.
  2. Stay away from the complaining. There is a lot of it. Especially from the older regional pilots who could never move on because of one thing or another. Stay positive always! Surround yourself with positive people.

I have a feeling I know where your dad works and you are in good hands. Do not dismiss any advice he gives you despite your natural tendency to disregard him because he is your dad.

Oh, and take every advantage you can get. Through him and his friends. Great attitude to not want to rely on him but take what you can because everyone else is.

Don’t stress about it. If you can access it then it’s probably a good sign but not being able to doesn’t mean anything.

I have one kid and this is the first time I’m experiencing college admissions. She got into some ridiculous reach schools and got rejected from some safety schools. Purdue is a target/safety school and she doesn’t have access to the engineering link. None of it makes sense to me.

I personally do not believe attending any of these schools determines your path in life. Every successful person I know never went to college or went to no name schools. One’s you have to explain where they are to people. Your determination will make you and college is a 4 year blip in life.

Stay positive..

Please post if anyone gets the Lilly Scholars scholarship. My daughter is in cohort 2. I believe this class would be cohort 4. Happy to answer any questions about the scholarship and program.
