I’m going to go “mom” on you here. And I am not going to read your essays. Because I am guessing you are are pretty bright kid - your stats are good, you studied hard. I know this feels hard. But please do not focus no what went wrong, don’t look for what you did wrong. You did the best you and you should be proud of that. Purdue is a great school. But there are soooo many other great school. Find the one that wants you! Your school is out there.

I’m at a huge school with 4000 kids so my counselor doesn’t know me very well. I don’t know anyone from my school that has been accepted but I’m seeing a lot of deferrals. I feel like my personal statement talks about me more but I guess I could be talking about them too much

I had the exact same stats but rejected

My advice - take a break and go do something you enjoy. You won’t find an answer and you need to give yourself some time to digest. Rejection is always hard but it’s okay. You will end up where you belong and you will be amazing.

Mine kid deferred OOS FYE-high stats, 790 math, highest rigor- but no demonstrated interest. Also Purdue essays not great.

Actually it’s quite the opposite for flight. If your daughter absolutely wants to go to Purdue, make sure that goes in the LOCI. Flight is just so capacity restricted that they use deferrals as just, “we need to see who accepts so we don’t over enroll". It’s not the rejection that it seems like

One caveat. If she wants to go to the Indianapolis campus, sounds like she would be accepted.

Only about 10% of students are awarded merit awards. It’s very competitive. Congratulations!

I’m very sorry. It sucks!!

on the website it says they offer both in and OOS applicants these scholarships.

Do you know if I should jump on Purdue housing now so it doesn’t fill up? I guess I should ask – what are my next steps? Not ready to commit but it’s one of my top choices. Also the price is unbeatable right now.

Thanks, that is helpful and encouraging. It is her top choice.

Congrats to the students who were accepted. Purdue housing is NOT first come first serve. Just make sure you have the housing application done before the deadline. I believe the deadline is May 5th.

Hugs to those who were not accepted. It’s not personal and you will do well wherever you go!

For those deferred, the wait continues but don’t give up hope. The last two cycles saw many deferred applicants admitted.

Students - please do not post your essays on any open forum. You can run afoul of plagiarism checkers.

if it helps at all, my oldest child didn’t get into their top choice either 3 years ago and now they are so happy how it worked out. Ended up at one of their safety schools and absolutely loves it and is thriving. Loves the classes, major and has made amazing friends. The “no” hurts right now but you sound like the type of kid who is going to be amazing no matter what school you go to. There is a great big world out there waiting for you and you will end up exactly where you’re meant to be!

No, Purdue is not first come/first serve for housing. From Purdue: “The deadline to sign your housing application is May 5, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. EDT; however, you are encouraged to apply by April 15 to express your interest in Learning Communities and/or to participate in the roommate matching process following the application deadline.”

You are guaranteed on campus housing if you meet the deadline.
