As a parent, I’d advise my student to have something done by the end of the month but to take the time to write, revise, get feedback, etc. rather than slapdash a quick reply no matter how anxious to tell them you’re still very much interested
I got deferred brody
Accepted!
3.3ish UW, 3.7ish W, 1490 SAT (720M 770E), applied into mechanical engineering. Class rank ~200/500.
So-so stats but had some incriminating circumstances freshman into sophomore year that I wrote about lots in essays. Family stuff, etc.
Poorer 9th and 10th year grades but a strong upward curve and a 4.75W GPA second semester junior year.
7 AP classes(inc. AP Phys, Econ, Lang, Apush), passed all, currently in AP Calc AB/BC.
ECs:
Male Ballet Dancer, 9+ years, done solo’s with companies across the east Coast and am studying at a pre-professional conservatory.
Violinist, concertmaster of school orchestra and state capital youth orchestra, also gigs in the area for money,
Student Body President
History Honor Society president
2 month research internship at USNA with a tenured PhD Prof. who wrote me a great rec letter,
Founded a music tutoring academy to give young students free lessons
Worked as a volunteer English tutor for Ukrainians
Model UN leadership council, won commendations at conference
Worked as an election judge for my states gubernatorial election
Essay focused mostly on intersection of the arts and STEM for me and how they compliment each other.
No scholarship or anything but stoked to get in!
We felt similarly last year at this same time, and honestly, it is really difficult. Our son was #2 of his (large) class, 5’s in a dozen AP classes, university courses after AP, EC’s and athletics… and was deferred by Purdue while being accepted early at schools with equal or lower acceptance rates (GTech, CMU, Michigan)
We don’t know if it was yield protect, or maybe his “Why Purdue” wasn’t good enough, or who knows what? But he really wanted Purdue as an option, so he wrote the LOCI (we took about 2 weeks to do it) and was later accepted (including Honors College) after the deferral.
And ultimately he chose Purdue after campus visits and is very happy. If your student really wants Purdue, a strong LOCI with those stats has a good chance.
Ahh so jealous - most beautiful place!! D21 was admitted but we learned our beloved alma mater doesn’t give much merit so our D24 didn’t even apply ![]()
Does it matter how fast we return the LOCI?
S24 Accepted FYE OOS
35 ACT
3.9 UW 4.4 W
ECs: Varsity XC Captian, Varsity Soccer Captain, Multiple club leader. Internship at local satelite company for 2 years. SSP. Presidential Gold Service Award 2 years
Won’t be able to check my decision right now, but it seems like all accepted students have “Next Steps”, “Visit Campus”, and “Decision Letters & Documents” on their portal under the View Decision button. Can somebody who was rejected/deferred confirm whether they have these as well? Thanks! ![]()
Accepted to Data Science w/John Martinson Honors College!
Illinois
3.8 unweighted
4.3 weighted
1520 SAT
12 AP classes
DS was accepted to BiomedE at Indianapolis(UW:5.15, W: 3.7, ACT:35) campus as well. As it’s a satellite of WL campus so don’t think it means you were rejected at WL. Check the FAQs about Indy campus which state the following:
Prospective future undergraduate students seeking to attend Purdue University in Indianapolis on or after July 1, 2024, will apply for admission to Purdue University using the processes in place for Purdue University West Lafayette. Prospective students can expect admissions standards to be those of West Lafayette. Students at Purdue University in Indianapolis will be wholly part of the Purdue West Lafayette flagship ecosystem and ordinarily able to participate in student organizations and activities at both locations.
Same as DS24
I will DM you
I honsestly don’t know. I would say get it submitted as fast as you can without compromising content in any way.
DS was accepted in FYE engineering. No merit scholarship.
OOS, 1580 SAT, 96 UW, 106 WGPA, 10 APs, lots of ec’s-robotics team, drama, volunteering etc.
Couple of questions: When is the best time to visit if we can’t make the admitted students tour?
Also, is it one of the schools where you need to put in a housing deposit asap?
Good Luck to all those deferred!
yes this is true if you are deferred you will only have “Decision Letters & Documents” on your portal
Portal astrology was ridiculously off. Got no buttons like change major, my box left for the first time late on Wednesday. Pointing towards Reject but I’m in for FYE International Indian.
Tours will fill it up quickly now that they released decisions so try to register for a visit in advance of when you want to go. The general tours are great. We did a general campus tour in the morning, ate lunch in one of the dining halls, and then did a college specific tour in the afternoon.
Historically no, you didn’t need to deposit early for housing but I haven’t heard anything for '24-25. I don’t think they’ve even updated the housing portal yet as it’s still showing Spring '24.
So frustrating…. I have NO CLUE what these schools want - extremely demoralizing and dejecting ![]()

DD just received admission to Engineering at Purdue Main Campus (aerospace engineering). OOS Presidential Scholarship. 4.2 GPA 35 ACT (36 Science), 4 year Varsity athlete, Student Council Officer, PT job for three years.
She has had four years of engineering classes through a co-op/concurrent program at a local college. I think that finally made a difference for an engineering school. she REALLY wants to be an engineer and understands the coursework and specialties. Plus we visited in March and she loved it and was really able to personalize the essays.
We are beyond thrilled! We really didn’t think she’d get any merit aid since it is so insanely competitive for OOS students.
She’s been admitted to all her “safety” schools and Deferred at University of Chicago and Case Western University. We’ll find out the last “dream” school, Georgia Tech later this month.
Can you please help me format a LOCI since you have done it so well before
She’s also first in her class of 500 and has taken 6 AP classes and three Concurrent classes at our state university. We’re from Oklahoma, and geography and the fact she’s a girl, may have helped. She wrote a lot about women in engineering at Purdue.
