Thank you!
Iāve read that LLA has been housed in Frieda Parker Hall in the past, one of the newer, nicer dorms. However, not sure if it will continue at the same dorm or not going forward. My son is also an Econ admit and just got into LLA at Daniels, and we are going to visit in a couple of weeks. I was going to ask about the residence hall situation with the LLA at that time and whether there are limited number of spots in the residence hall or if itās open to any LLA member.
Thanks for the information. We are unable to visit. Would appreciate any additional information that you can share after your visit - about LLA, Daniels business school, Econ major.
If S24 does end up in deciding to join Purdue, will let you know.
I believe you are guaranteed housing as long as you deposit by May 5th (did Purdue change the date to 5/1?). However, if you do not deposit by April 15th, you are less likely to be in one of the traditional freshman dorms (and unlikely to be in a living and learning community either). You might be placed in a room when an upperclassman decided to go abroad, do a coop or drop out, or you could be placed in a study lounge that was converted to a dorm room, or you might be in a double converted to a triple or a quad made out of a triple. Less likely but possible: Purdue owns an apartment building that is not in walking distance and requires a short public bus or shuttle, and you could end up there. Your amenities will be nice, but admittedly that is not the traditional freshman experience most expect, which in turn can be an intimidating and possibly alienating experience depending on your personality.
So I guess my unofficial decision date is April 15th. Oof.
Honestly, I donāt hope I go to Purdue because I didnāt apply for honors college and now I regret that. If I end up going to another college, I wonāt have to regret not applying to honors.
Did anyone get their acceptance letter in the mail? My son did and the envelope was open. I wonder if all the contents were there. Do you mind listing what was included with the letter?
Gold watch, keys to a BMW, tickets to Parisā¦just kidding! Stickers, a pennant for social media photos, a card with information on how to order a garden flag, information on the school, and the letter.
We were just invited to a regional reception for accepted students. We are in the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia) area. Anyone else get invited to the reception? Thanks!
We did too!
Given that CS is offered through the College of Science and not the College of Engineering, how will my experience be different from other schools that put CS in their College of Engineering?
I plan to double major in CS+CE (or major+minor in those subjects respectively).
We did not get a pennant. That is strange - I would not think anybody would want to open an envelope and steal a pennant. Oh, well. Thanks for the response. At least it was not a gold watch that was taken
My daughter is in the honors college, and while it has been really good for her, it is not a fit for everyone. Their focus is interdisciplinary, and some people just want to focus on their major. While HC looks nice on a resume, arguably the Data Mine (which is still open to admitted students) is actually one the best resume builders because you will work on genuine semester and year-long projects for actual companies. The HC has a really lovely dorm, but frankly everyone at Purdue seems partial to his/her dorm over all others (the only place I have seen where students are more passionate about their housing was Notre Dame - for sure no one was that way at my college), so while that dorm is initially an attraction, the magnetism doesnāt necessarily hold over time. Thatās not to dismiss the other learning communities either - they have their fans and their own benefits - but I am not familiar with all of them. Most of them are the sum of their residents, however. Having a good and engaged group can make the difference between a ho-hum vs. meaningful experience.
My daughter is in CS at Purdue. We had the same question when she was selecting colleges. CS feels like its own stand-alone thing, really. It is in the College of Science, but it has its own list of requirements for the major and its own building and labs. The main difference is that CS students can take any science to fill their general education requirement, including algebra-based physics. the engineering students must take calculus-based physics. In terms of math, the requirements are similar. Both majors take (besides whatever math level they finished in high school) Calc 1, 2, and 3 (multi-variable) and linear algebra. At that point the CS students take discrete math (it is labelled as a CS course and taught through the CS department, but what they are learning is discrete math) and the engineers take differential equations. Some CS focus areas (chosen junior and senior year) require statistics. Like many students (especially engineering and CS students), my daughter came to Purdue with a lot of AP and DE classes that got her out of most general education requirements. So that may have contributed to the feeling of CS ābeing its own thingā. She met a lot of people with different majors in the dorms, but fortunately the CS ladies are cooperative and supportive, so she does spend a lot of time with those sharing her major.
anyone know roughly how many people got deferred from purdue ea? or where I can find it?
I havenāt seen that information broken out. Last cycle was the first time they deferred larger number of students and this cycle seems to be the same. Hopefully there will be lots of acceptances coming.
did last year have a good amount of deferralā>accept? just got in off deferral at clemson so hoping thats a good sign for purdue deferal
Congrats at Clemson!!! What major did you apply to at Purdue?
thank you, AeroE. I know clemson and purdue engineering are on different levels but still holding out hope
Congrats on Clemson!
Most of the posts on CC last cycle were deferral ā waitlist but I donāt think that is necessarily indicative of what will happen this year.
My sonās application had the automatic Spring enrollment consideration, so that may be my post you are talking about. I havenāt seen anyone else with that, nor had I heard of that, before.
