Purdue Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

My son, after being deferred, is also being considered for the newly announced Spring Start program in the College of Agriculture. The Landscape Architecture major, for some reason, is housed there. My son applied for the Biological Engg major. The Undergraduate Recruitment Office in this College told us that decisions for Spring Start will come out in mid-Feb. If admitted, Fall enrollment is ruled out. This is similar to the Spring admit concept offered by NC State.

I don’t know. Given Purdue is a top engineering program, I would think getting above a 3.0 would require a lot of work. When I was an undergrad in the 1980s engineers who were pulling 2.5s were dancing across the quad, but in those days schools were trying to fail out the bottom 20% of each class. Maybe with grade inflation a 3.2 is not a high hurdle.

It is my understanding that the year before my son applied Purdue had an higher number of accepted students matriculate than usual, which threw off their planning for housing, classes, etc. This likely resulted in the school not being able to honor their policy of students who earn a given GPA being guaranteed their desired major. This was during COVID madness when many schools had their yields thrown to the wind.

I am not sure; my wife attended that session with my son. She did say that before the UT professors stood up there was stunned silence in the audience.

saw quite a few acceptances in the deferred pool @OSU as well. Hopefully that’s a good sign as well

Heard any decision in Purdue’s deferred pool?

Last year most of the deferred decisions came out In March. Also, Purdue for RD typically releases decisions on Friday after 5pm.

in 2022’s forum most people heard back mid march(20th March) to end of march

In VA and did not. Was an email sent to you or your student?

My son, CS, was deferred last year. He had great stats. From my understanding there are only about 2500 students in CS. He turned in a great deal of awards and honors received after the Nov 1 priority deadline, 7th semester grades, as well as an additional letter of recommendation, his job he had secured for the summer, as well as a LOCI that outlined what classes he was excited about and why and some other social experiences he would take part. He was accepted on March 17, 2023. He is there now and loves, loves, loves it. That being said it is very very competitive so anything your child can do to tell Purdue that they are the first choice really helps. My daughter is joining him in the fall. She is liberal arts, though.

Wonderful story, and thanks for sharing!

It was sent to the student and parents. The event is in Washington, DC.
If you are in Southern Virginia perhaps you were considered out of the area? There was also an event in Edison, New Jersey for the tri-state area.

Hope to see you there! We are all signed up.

We are near the DC area and the event is on April 28th which imo a little late. Are you visiting the campus for PFM?

Helpful insight, my S27 hopes to follow your sons path. Would you mind sharing with me here or over PM more about your son’s extracurriculars toward a path in CS, my son is having to blaze his own trail a bit as his school is not strong in this area. TY!

Loudoun County, so Northern Virginia. He has not accepted his offer yet, maybe that’s it? Either way, we reached out to the DC area rep we met at an LCPS college fair.

I thought Purdue targets 450 for CS. With the addition of the AI major, that may have changed.

We head to Purdue on Thursday for a NCAAM basketball game, the PRM event on Friday, and the Honors College open house on Saturday morning. We are packing it ALL in. My other kid goes to IU (The sibling rivalry is STRONG in our household) so we will visit Saturday and Sunday and fly back on Sunday night. Whew!

No Pennant but stickers, letter and a flyer on how to order lawn sign.

Going to regional Boilermaker Bound event in April (Long Beach) and starting to get very excited about this next chapter.

Our accepted students tour is 5+ weeks away. I am dying over here to get a good look at Purdue! A parent on another thread said each kid ended up going to the last school they visited - that may have impacted my tour selection a bit. By then we will have seen many other schools/offers, some of which might do a great rah-rah job of convincing a 17 yr old. Wondering if I messed up the order of school visits!!
