Purdue University: Class of 2024 Discussion/Decision Thread

Is anyone still waiting for their decision for Cybersecurity at Polytechnic Institute at Purdue University?

Ayyy Who’s also waiting on a decision from Georgia Tech tomorrow???

Whilst on campus visits are cancelled now is a good time to check out the many Youtube videos about life at Purdue posted officially by admissions team and also many just by students - run a search and learn virtually about life as a Boilermaker!

Hey can someone tell me how that GPA and stuff works when you enter purdue and transition into your desired major? I’ll also be transferring 16 credit hours from my high school ( A-Level exams) so will that impact my GPA or so? THanks

@yw123 Only credits taken at Purdue count towards your Purdue GPA.

Did anyone get an email from Purdue saying that they must confirm their enrollment by April 15th due to the coronavirus situation?

Purdue website says:

DEADLINES TO ACCEPT ADMISSION OFFERS
Fall term - Students admitted by April 10 must accept their offer by May 1. Students admitted after April 10 have three weeks to accept.

@d33psan That’s for international students only.

I’m an international student and did not receive the email

Will less credits taken lower my GPA ? or EAI?

@yw123 I’m not sure what you are asking. Your Engineering Index, used to determine transition to major, will be your grades earned in the STEM courses you take AT Purdue your first year. Math, engineering design, and science courses.

The first year engineering curriculum is fairly uniform. There is a minimum number of credits/classes you must take to fulfill FYE requirements. All information is on the CoE website.

Again, your Purdue GPA is not impacted at all by high school courses.

I live outside the United States but am a US citizen so considered as a domestic applicant. Maybe that’s why I got that email.

Really? I got an email today morning…

@momofsenior1 ,

I am reaching out to request information about transitioning from Exploratory major into College of Engineering. I cant seem to find information specifically about the prospects/chances/GPA requirements for guaranteed transfer, if there is any.

Anyone have experience or info about this?

Thank you

@TXgreen Your best bet is to call the CoE and asking them the stats for how many students successfully transitioned into engineering from exploratory studies. It will also be major dependent. Some majors are much more competitive than others.

@momofsenior1 I did email the admissions counselor earlier, but did not get any specific numbers. Just a " depends on number of spots and applicant pool" .

There isn’t a guaranteed acceptance into CoE, although there seems to be a possibility via the CODO process. However, there is also the T2M process that will need to happen after FYE, so I am not clear if that will mean an extra year/another round of waiting for acceptance, or one step for entry to FYE and specific major.
Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

@TXgreen My D only knew a handful of students who successfully entered engineering from outside of CoE. I just don’t have any context to how many tried. I’m sorry the CoE wasn’t more forthcoming.

Theoretically if you are able to get into the first year engineering courses you need, you could transition directly into the major and not lose any time. CoE students will have priority in scheduling for those courses though.

I would email this admission counselor back and politely probe further on how many applicants they had last year from out of college from Exploratory Studies and the number that were accepted to engineering, regardless of major.

The most popular majors historically have been Aero, BME, ECE, and CHE. Chances of admittance into those majors would be extremely tough.

The advice that I have given students in the past is that if you have a an acceptance somewhere else for engineering, that is your safer option.

Happy to say that my son has chosen to attend Purdue Polytech! He was struggling as to whether to go there, or to attend TAMU Engineering (in state) or Utah CS/Gaming. After the Purdue’s for Me visit, researching, and talking to people in the industry, he made his decision. Hoping that 100% placement for Construction Management Technology continues. Boiler Up!

@anxiousdad2020 My son also turned down the TAMU (engineer), and committed to Purdue university (cs). We are from TX as well.
BOILER UP!!

when do RD decisions come out
